I've been having trouble sleeping lately because of pain and was daydreaming about getting more pain pills. I did the math in my head and realized if they agreed to give me what I wanted, which they probably wouldnt, but even if they did it would be an enormous amount of pills every month. So that seems like a bad idea but not being able to sleep is really dragging me down so I was thinking and didnt know where else to ask. Do sleeping pills work if you're having trouble sleeping cause of pain? I've also had a doctor offer me anxiety meds, claimed it would help pain. That doesnt make sense to me but Im no expert, does anyone find anxiety meds help with their pain?

I use Trazodone when I really have trouble sleeping. I also take Cymbalta, which is helpful for my depression and chronic pain.

Ativan was the anxiety med. Also, that is exciting that the sleep med helped you sleep with pain to me. Im going to have to ask about it.

Ativan is also a sleep med, so it should at least help you at night.

I have trazodone, remeron, Xanax, Vicodin. And now some muscle relaxer which escapes me at the moment. My doc is a little hesitant giving me something longer acting while taking 2-3 Vicodin a day since the interaction is respiratory depression. I don't sleep well but the mix of Vicodin and muscle relaxer gets me about four hours.

I'll have to pick up some melatonin as the dr didnt seem too excited about a sleep med for me. Even if its not perfect, sometimes I just need a moment of hope. I will take advil and/or tylenol sometimes, not because i think it will work but just that half hour window or so where you can have that brief glimmer of hope it will help.
