I've had disc problems in my lower back for a few years. No surgeries but have gone through other treatments and taking medication 24/7. Compared to my feet, the back pain is very managable. My feet burn and sting. The medication I take for my back doesn't even touch the pain in my feet. This week my doctor told me the pain in my feet is nerve pain which is why my pain meds don't help. I don't know a thing about nerve pain. Anyone with any experience?

It sounds like your doctor is referring to sciatica, pain caused by bulging or ruptured discs that press on nerves. the nerves then cause pain all down the leg to the foot. Anti-inflammatory drugs can help. What did your doctor suggest?

to be sure of that you need to have a nerve conduction study done. since it now appears to involve some nerves they might can go in and relieve the nerve from the impingement. good luck.

You are correct there. I have two ruptured discs in my lower back. I've taken things like ibuprofen, Bextra, and Lodine (anti-inflammatories) but none have been helpful. The doctor I mentioned is my chiropractor that I see every 2-3 weeks, and she can't prescribe medication. Used to see a pain specialist but after there was no more he could do he sent me back to my primary doc since all he was doing was writing scripts. Chiropractor didn't have any other suggestions.

My chiropractor has been very helpful. I've been seeing her for over a year. I take Vicodin which contains hydrocodone...same as Lortab. The Vicodin I take as needed. I take morphine regularly in the morning and evening.

Are you considering surgery for the ruptured discs then, since pain management isn't available you to feel better? That kind of surgery has become less invasive in recent years.

I have seen two surgeons and was told both times I am not a surgical candidate. The first one seemed to think I am too young and if I wait there will soon be more options available. The second one felt my breasts are too large, and I should have them reduced. He said he could repair my back but the weight on my chest will continue to put pressure on my back and the problems could recur.
