Just curious if any fellow fibro sufferers also get night time leg cramps...you know the kind, the ones that wake you out of a sound sleep and you scream out in agony and can't straighten your leg or step on your toes/foot?

I know there are a number of reasons for leg cramps, and I also know they just plain happen with no reason at all. I think the last time I had a leg cramp like the one I had last night was when I was pregnant with my first child and that was 32 years ago

Like I said, just curious among the fibro folks if they have leg cramps at night.

Hey Sabby,

Pottasium (Spelling ?) Try having a half of a bananna right before bed. Also stretch about 20 mintues before bed with leg, back, heel and foot. I had the same thing you are describing and it took a long while to try and figure it out. Blueberries are good to if you don't like bananna's.

I get them occasionally, both at night and during the day. My left foot is mostly effected, which I've always put down to the way I naturally walk on it being slightly over to the outside and toes like to curl under a bit.

Also try magnesium powder(i think thats it, let me check and I'll get back to you for sure). My aunt gave me some to help with that and it did wonders.

Oh yes! Drag your self out of bed and walk no matter how excruciating it is. Potassium does help, but don't take too much. If you can eat bananas it is a natural way of stopping the cramping. I can't eat them, so I take potassium supplements.

You may have an iron deficiency. I read that fibro, leg cramps and restles legs are related to this. I just had a blood test that showed an iron deficiency that is causing my RLS. Still I am not getting relief, but I am stilll trying to find that miracle that will stop all of this. Walk when you have the cramps and don't lay in bed. That just makes them worse. Good luck, my friend. It can be miserable.

Good points all I think. Limit your salt intake as salt binds with and dumps the potassium out of your body. (Vitamin K.)

For the middle of the night leg cramps my physical therapist pointed me to quinine water. It's often in the grocery store next to the bottled water. I only need a few sips and it calms the contractures.

I did not realize that salt removes the potassium.....thanks for sharing that with me _Sky!! I will watch my intake.

I do get out of bed when I get the cramping....it hurts so bad I can't lie there anyways....I'm like a jumping bean at first LOL. (not a pretty sight I'll tell ya).

I'll look into the iron deficiency too. I do take a multi plus iron but it may not be enough.

I'll also look into the quinine water as well....
