I'm wondering this because another forum I am a member of tried to upgrade to the latest version today, and something went wrong so we lost everything - members, posts, all of it. A couple people have re-registered so far. It was a small forum, only about 1,000 posts. I can't imagine what it would be like if that were to happen here.

There are a lot of things that can go wrong on any kind of database upgrade. Hopefully the other site backed up all of it's data before they installed the upgrade.

Sometimes during an upgrade, if they haven't installed all of the patches before upgrading, it can go terribly wrong. If things were not done in a certain progression, it can go wrong.

They should be able to re-install their previous database and platform from a back up and all should be there, providing the back up was done properly with no errors.

How frustrating it can be to upgrade and have it go kaflooey. I hope all gets worked out asap.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, I really hope they're able to fix it. I've been there for almost a year, so a few of the members have become really close to me. Thanks for the info

Rule #1 of any upgrade -- always make or have a backup of the database and all your files saved. That way if things do go horribly awry, you can always restore from the backup.
