Does anyone know how the number of Views is determined, or if it is only refreshed automatically or something?
Has anyone every tested the view count? I've been paying attention to the view count and it does not seem to be working. I see the view count is 2, (for example) I view the thread quickly and go back to the forum, the view count is still 2!! Why wouldn't it change to 3?  Just sayin. |

I just tested it again! Went back to the forum and the view count was 1. Opened my thread, went back to the forum and the view count is still 1!

OK, that was weird. When I responded with the 2nd post, and went back to the forum, the view count was 2 (it should have been 3). Then I went back to the forum and viewed it three more times, so it should have been 5 but it was still 2. Then I viewed it a fourth time and when I went back to the forum the view count said 7, which I think is accurate. So it must not refresh right away. I just wonder how that works.
Not important. Just ignore me.  I guess Im just trying to distract myself from unpleasant things. |

I viewed it 5 times and it still says 7 lol.

On another community the admin said there is a lag in time between when the actual views were and when it showed up on the forums. Maybe the same here?

I don't know the real answer but I was wondering if the counter might be set up to ignore repeated views by the same member, especially within a short time and without any changes to the thread itself.

There is a lag on the view count updating but I do believe it calculates all views, just doesn't show up straight away.

All counters here are cached, meaning they are not "real-time" views on statistics. Why? Because to compute the real-time views in actual real-time would take up significantly more server resources. So we save some server resources by caching data that isn't vitally important to actually engaging in conversations and discussions with other members.
