Ok here's a post that disappeared, for sure!

http://http://forums.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?p=1393517#post1393517

I posted after "fungus".

I posted "mushroom"

and then I looked at it to make sure it posted.

No, I can't go around copying every post I make to later show you when/if it disappears. But this one I know was there!

The post, itself doesn't matter. That some of my posts disappear does.

Thanks for checking it out.

I am not sure if this is a ? or not JD however, I have posted posts and later found they were not there.

Often I have found that my posts were takin off only to put where someone thinks they ought to go...

I don't know and definitly not pointing any fingers at anyone, but that is a Great question.... Would love to see if you get an answer....

Good Luck JD,

Crew

IDK, I truly don't.

This has been a problem for me for at least a year. I know the site used to have someone remove OLD posts and threads, but not new ones.

New posts, if not appropriate, generally generate an "edit" on the post (which shows up) or a deletion with a PM from admin etc.

However, this was neither of those issues.

I've been asked to send in any post that disappeared, but that would require photocopying (online) each page I leave a post. I've suspected many of my postings missing before, but could never be absolutely sure I didn't change my mind, or maybe answered the same thread in a different forum. (This speaks to those who double or triple post the same questions in various forums! lol)

But this particular post I am absolutely sure of! Ok guys, where is it?

Maybe the site enters a vortex of parallel universes and it posts into the wrong one at that moment???

The most common reason why your post has "disappeared" is because the server never received it in the first place. If you click on "Post" and there's a network problem or something, you may think it went through, and it didn't. The only way to check the server got your post is to go to the thread after you've posted to it, and make sure your reply is there. If it's not, try posting again.

We don't remove posts randomly.

Thanks DocJohn. Yes, this time I had checked to be sure it posted. Guess that vortex thing might be the reason after all!

I've had quite a few of my posts disappear as well. Even after I check the thread after I have submitted the reply. Generally its frustrating and I quit talking in that particular thread.

Thanks. That means it was replaced by that post ... obtaining the same post number as what mine was. Guess I'd have to keep a list of post numbers along with threads to prove any of this Not sure I want to bother.

I lose at least one post a day. After posting I check to see if it shows in the thread. Before going to a different forum I refresh to confirm if the post is still there. If
one goes missing I check my stats and it does not show up.

To borrow from a recent thread, it is what it is.
Thanks for this!

Posts or whole threads are sometimes removed by the admins, but that seems to me to be infrequent. (One did happen recently.) If a whole thread is removed, they do not necessarily notify each person who may have posted in the thread.

In the past I found a way, using the History cache of my browser, to be able to go back and reproduce an old post even when it was gone from PC. Since then something seems to have changed in the browser, and I no longer know how to do that. You could not just go back into browser history and click on the old link, because that would connect you to the no-longer-existing place on PC, and that would wipe out information about what used to exist.

Now I have given DocJohn too much information...

I've had the exact same thing happen to me too, JD. I am sure with so many people and posts and the size of this place there's bound to be occasional glitches. I try to remember it was just a post on a social network and if I care about that particular post so much, I can repost.

I'm glad though that I'm not alone. I wasn't getting quite paranoid about it but. . . I think I was heard mumbling to myself, "I'm the right size, it's the pants that don't fit"

We're not talking about a thread or post in conflict (or at least I'm not).
When there's an issue with admin about a post, admin PMs you personally about it, and what steps were taken if it's removed. If it's edited, that shows on the post in public, or if the thread is locked, that also shows. If a thread is deleted, well then the whole thing is gone, not just my postings.

I do know that in long times past there was someone on the site "team" who removed old, outdated posts or threads. (Such as one announcing an upcoming event that would now be long past, etc.) I have been assured that no relevant posts are being removed.

I thought about noting the actual post #, but only see that when I do a search, and not right after I post. But that's what I'll go hunt next, so I can actually note the post #. Actually, I think I did do that recently and when I went back to the thread, someone else's post, which would have been right after mine, had that number.

I'm ok. I long ago realized nothing I say is that important!

The "#12" (or whatever) at the top right of your post is a link to that individual post and contains the post number in the URL. Once you click on the first link you see a second one in approximately the same position, "Thread: Posts still disappearing !" Clicking on that second link takes you to your post again, but this time with the rest of the thread around it. That's the page I bookmark whenever I want to refer to a particular post again for whatever reason. I think (but I'm not sure) the URL is the same as for the page you see right after you click "Submit". [I just checked with this post and yes, it is -- so you can bookmark right after posting if you want to.]

Once in a great while I've gotten a post the way I wanted it in Preview, then gone away without clicking Submit. Once in a great while, too, I've clicked Submit and eventually gotten a browser timeout instead of an actual page. Could either of those have happened to any of your missing posts?

It is possible, I am sure. Since I have lost so many, I try really hard to confirm the post shows in the thread.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
