Often music is looked at as a way to express the unexpressed.

It's a great way to show your personality as well, it would be great to be able to play music on our profiles and express what we like but we may also have an easier time relating to each other if some are shy or feel they are not good at bringing up conversations. :]]

It would be nice for those of us with fast connections and if the PC servers could handle it gracefully.

If we do get that feature, I hope those of us who can't cope with it will be able to switch it off. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I use a dialup connection and wouldn't want to wait five minutes for a page to download. Even when I've been really interested in a long file such as a video clip and been willing to wait half an hour for it to download, my browser has sometimes bogged down partway through.

Yes like in the profile options you can shut the feature off for all profiles like you already can with some stuff on here :33

I'm not DocJohn so I don't know for certain (and I may very well be wrong), but I don't believe it's possible to have the capability to add music to profiles with this particular forum base software.

HOWEVER, you're more than welcome to put an HTTP link on your profile to music you find online (it likely would be easiest to link through YouTube) as long as you don't violate the Community Guidelines.

It's hard to modify the forum in ways like this because the admin can only work with the features included in the forum software. I don't think they can add any on, but I might be wrong...

I would like to be able to block the sight of some of the video clips and photos in what I assume is the 'signature' line of people's posts. Some of the images I find quite triggering and the only way I have found to cope has been to completely ignore the person. I wonder, too, if PC is attempting to become an entertainment website? I would hate to see it lose its focus on good mental health.

Signatures are a way that allow a person to express a part of themselves and are a time-honored, 20+ year tradition online.

You can either turn off all signatures in your My Profile > Edit My Options screen, or you can ignore members whose signatures you find particularly triggering.

I would actually prefer to not have music on profiles. Oftentimes I'll have my volume up for other things and sound files autoplaying when I open a page is extremely obnoxious. The link idea was fine though.

I wasn't trying to disrupt your tradition and I'm not stupid; I know very well that signatures "allow a person to express a part of themselves". I understand your desire to preserve the drawings of bloody-eyed women; the photos of half-naked women squatting wearing black "angel" wings; the screen shots from copyright protected movies glorifying sadistic murderers; the pictures of weapons, the quotes insulting other people's faiths; I get it. But just like you don't like me, I don't like some of what I see and I choose not to look at it. I in no way wanted to stop you or anyone else from a steady diet of whatever floats your separate and collective mental boats.

DocJohn was just giving you a suggestion of ways to turn off the signatures. That's really all you can do. Nobody said they dislike you, and nobody claimed you to be stupid. Just saying.
