I apologize for the forum downtime overnight. One of the network adapters on the community database server decided to quit, and given the server's age, we decided to replace the whole server while we were at it. So we did that, and now we're back on a new database server. Who knows, it may even speed up access a bit!
Thanks for bearing with us during the downtime this morning. Best, DocJohn __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

Could not get on the forums again last night. Is it me or your zippy new server? Looks like no one posted since last night.

There was another problem... and another fix. Hopefully this time we've got everything!

I got the fright of my life when I tried to log in and got some message about data base not being found. It was only when I clicked on the Psych Central link within that message that I got the message from Doc John about the forum being down. Thanks for that. At least I knew then that there was a problem.

I encountered another brief outage tonight, from 8:34 PM to 8:40 PM Pacific time. The same "Database Error" message came up that I'd seen during the two long outages.
I'd saved the link that someone posted (downforeveryoneorjustme.com) and already tried it out once when the forums were working normally. This time it reported: "It's not just you! http://forums.psychcentral.com looks down from here." |

I got downtime for most of today too. The front page is also all skewed with the database error showing where new members should be showing.

The new database server went offline last night for 4 hours. We'll spend the day researching this issue further to figure out why it stopped responding...

The power outlet the new server was plugged into was faulty, so we plugged it into a different one. Ah, the joys of so many places where things can go wrong!

No worries DocJohn. Just proves how indispensable this place is to us though.

Just remember that the first bug in a computer was a MOTH.
I remember when I was working in data entry while going to college, I came into work & the machine I was using wasn't working.....but it had been working when I left the day before. Obviously, I jumped to the conclusion that it was a problem with the machine, so I called IBM. They sent out all the fix-it guys in their blue suits (back in the early 70's) & they checked out the machine only to find out that it had been unplugged overnight (probably by the cleaning crew). First thing I do now is look at the power plug anytime something isn't working. Glad it was a simple fix. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck.
