Just curious! I'm an oldie to NeuroTalk and a newbie here! I have a question. Is there a time limit for new people to be able to upload avatars and signature photos? If there is, that would explain why I've not been able to do so.

Thanks!

Um...I just discovered those features are now activated. Don't think they were before. Maybe the signature will show up soon as well. So sorry for the interruption here!

It's not a time period, per se, but a number of posts thing (make sure you're really "here") I think; welcome to the PsychCentral forums NancyJ!

Thank you ((Perna)) and ((Yoda)). I felt very silly since as I posted, the graphics showed up. Heh. Honest! They weren't there as I did.

And thanks Yoda. That's Bruna. She's my dachsund that I adopted from Hearts United for Animals in Nebraska. Wonderful no-kill shelter. They primarily rescue mill dogs but take in all deserted dogs and some cats too! Bruna was in a Missouri puppy mill and lived in a cage from the day she was born and used as a breeder. She was in a dilapidated shack with 47 other dachsunds when they were rescued. She had a baby at the time and she was adopted out to a nice family in New Mexico.

Again, sorry for posting merrily along about graphics but at least I kinda answered my own question in the process! LOL! I kinda figured it was about the number of posts.

I've been at NeuroTalk since Doc John opened it up for us when a Braintalk Community went down for a lengthy period of time. He saved us all! Doc John rocks.

Nope ,there shouldn't be. I've changed my avatar and edited my signature a couple times since joining here mid 2009.

Oh don't feel self conscious! Those of us who have had the same thing occur are chuckling, and those who haven't don't realize how to fix it themselves.

Now, what you can learn about ... is how to delete a post! There's a time limit, but it's enough for such a situation (posting it isn't showing and then having it post up.)

Also, there's a "Preview Post" tab under the smileys under the text window. Using that can be a godsend in some situations.

Hi Nancy, welcome to PC!

I didn't think to take notes when I was new here but from what I can remember (and from what other new members have mentioned) you need at least five, more likely ten, approved posts before you can upload images. The software keeps track of it automatically. Till then, you can choose one of the predefined avatars (about 900 of them) but you can't upload one of your own.

Whether your signature (with or without a photo) is visible to another member depends on several things: whether you have a signature in place, whether you've enabled the option to show it on your posts, and whether the other member has enabled the option to see other members' signatures on their posts.

I use a fairly slow connection. To save page-loading time, I keep signatures turned off. I can see yours only when I go to your profile.

When I was new I tried a signature line (without a picture) but it seemed to fit some of my posts better than others. I finally settled for turning it off and adding a custom "signature" to each post where I wanted one:

This is not a signature

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
