Is it possible to offer members the choice of moving a thread or deletion when admin feels a thread belongs elsewhere?

I get it that things need some organizing and i get it that sometimes admin feels something belongs in one place vs another... but i choose where I post things and if it doesn't fit with what should be there then i'd rather have a say than have it placed someplace i did not choose to post. If i wanted to post in a specific place, then i'd just post there.

i'm not mad or anything, but i'd prefer having the choice if my decision on where to post doesn't match what admin feels belongs in a category.

the recent thread that got moved was relevant to mental health... but it got moved to social. It isn't a social thread. It is 100% about being positive and thinking positively. i posted it so that people could maybe gain from it... it wasn't meant for entertainment. Even moving it to self esteem would have made more sense.

but.. whatever... i'll request deletion if it doesn't belong where i intended to post. i'm not wanting to argue whether it should be moved... just wondering if it is at all possible to offer members some choice in this, especially when threads could belong in several different places.

I think you'll find that you've posted in the wrong place again!

Probably best to take this up privately with the moderators via PM.

Members do not have a choice if a thread needs to be moved because it was posted to the incorrect forum to begin with. We have specific topics here in the community to help people find the most relevant topics they're interested in. If people "feel" their post is appropriate to the general mental health forum (even though the post is about a specific mental health topic covered in another forum), they should not be surprised to find their post moved to the appropriate forum.

"Other Mental Health" forum is a forum of LAST RESORT for topics that absolutely do not fit into another topical forum. We are very aggressive about moving topics out of that forum, to encourage people to congregate in other forums and stop using it as a general catch-all forum for any topic that may or may not have direct relevance to mental health.

If you post something that says "delete this if you're thinking of moving it," we will delete it.

As a member here, you've agreed to the community team moving posts as needed, so none of this should be a surprise.

I'm not objecting to the general moving of threads per se, just wondering if there was a way to specify or have a preference - which you are telling me there is by stating the bit about preferring deletion. That is what I wanted to know.

Sometimes a thread can belong in several forums because it fits several topics and it makes sense to post in general for that reason.

Pegasus, there was no "beef" to take up here... so no need to address privately. It is a simple question and the answer is relevant to more than just myself. It wasn't a bone to pick, just a question so that I can know how best to prevent my own threads from being placed in forums that I wouldn't have wanted - in the event that it is deemed as being placed in the wrong forum to start with. Sometimes i wouldn't care if it was moved, other times the destination forum would not be one i would want to post in - for many reasons.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
