Ive posted other threads related to this and its a real problem i have. I daydream alot about people mostly and its really depressing. I think about certain people and you grow attached to them in a way. I cant get this persons face out of my head. I know i dont love them or anything, its just a dream but it really affects me. It makes me sad and confused. Its a serious problem and i think there should be a forum on it...

some dissociation problems are about daydreaming, having dream worlds and dream people, because the "real" world is too traumatizing or they have been traumatized in the "real"world. So where I am "maladaptive daydreaming disorder" fits in with dissociation problems. you might try posting there.

Depending on the symptoms that go along with the clients daydreaming and having dream worlds we also put maladaptive daydreaming disorder in with schizophrenia because many schizophrenic people have day dream worlds, day dream people. that might be a place to post too depending on what other symptoms you may have.

there probably is... but as a trait or problem within a specific diagnosis. You don't really say enough to be able to categorize it, but it could be obsession... it could be a mild delusional infatuation... could be a lot of things... but it kind of points toward issues with your own identity. We tend to seek most fervently that which we cannot find or believe we do not have within ourselves... so daydreaming or obsessing on another is telling us that we are seeking something internally through external means

try reading through some of the disorder descriptions and perhas you will find other things you have in common?

i have found "Day Dreaming" to be a way to handle enormous stressors and especially Loneliness... don't say to just replace it with Real Life,, one doesn't always have those options,, if you can make something Positive out of your Day Dreams, then they become your servants, and not your masters. best wishes,,, Gus

Maladaptive Daydreaming is also quite common among people with Avoidant Personality Disorder. I have seen them mentioned together a lot.

Maybe you could make a social group for MDD?
Thanks for this!

I think that this is such a new concept that it is hard to categorize it. People with MD aren't delusional or generally have disassociation issues that I am discovering. I also haven't been diagnosed with avoidant personality disorder either. You should try yahoo groups. There is a great yahoo group for people who excessively daydream. For me its more an addiction.

Hope this helps
