Just curious as I did not know about posts being tagged until yesterday.... SO who fills in the tags??? and what is the purpose of a post being tagged...

Ha! I searched some of my posts to see if they were tagged and so far have not seen any, but then I only checked a few posts....

anyway.......... who writes the tags and why?

When you start a thread, you can add your own tags.

yup I see it Lynn............. .. I clicked on the Tags button....and you can type in for example depression, and it will pull up all the threads that are related to depression... so any topic you might want to search, you do so by using the tags...

I think that is the reason for tags... I just figured it out by myself.. When I typed question after I hit the tags button, a few other posts relating to questions popped up.. So it makes sense it would be a search help type thingie. right?

Silly me, I thought it was for the "advanced search" options here...but I just did that and this thread didn't show up. So now I get to wait and learn another something new.

Who knew you could add your own tags to someone else's post? I think I smell a problem in that area, if you know what I mean.

Okay that worked... hitting the "tags" at the bottom of the thread... and entering "adding tags". But what if I can't find the thread I want, and needed to use the advanced search. Or could I hit "tags" on any thread and search for another unrelated topic/tag????

So many questions, so little time!

If you tap the Tags and type question in the search box, this thread will come up. If you type questions, it will not bring up this thread... soooo that means you need to be specific on what you want..

am thinking you can search for anything under anyone's thread to search for whatever you wanted? I am really computer stupid... I just push buttons to see where they take me... sometimes it is good...... sometimes it is not good.....

ok it works.. i went to another thread, searched question in the tags box and it brough up this thread.....

I smell something fishy toooooooo... but then anyone can add a tag to any thread.... up to 4 tags......... sooooo it could be fishy or maybe not?

I added a "fishy" tag to this thread. So now it is for sure fishy.

Yes I could see how if a thread turns bad someone could put a nasty word/comment on the bottom to be mean.

Folks, this is functionality that's been in the forums for years. While I appreciate this may be "new" to some folks, I think it's a little inappropriate to suggest that suddenly people are going to start using tags in a mean or unsupportive way.

Tags are to help index the information that the forums contain, nothing more, nothing less. Please use features and functionality of the community in a way that's in keeping with a self-help support community. Thank you.

I should add -- if you find someone has put inappropriate tags onto your post, simply report the post and explain you're reporting it because of a specific tag. We can remove inappropriate tags very easily.

Thanks!

Well, let's see...

If you look near the bottom of the page where you're reading this, you'll probably see:

----------------------------------
Tags
adding tags, fishy, hi there from lynn :), question, tag from darkrunner, tags
----------------------------------

All the entries in the real list are links but I only linked one in this copy. If you click on any item in that list you'll get a list of threads that have been tagged that way. For the last one, "tags", right now there are two, this thread and one other. I tagged them myself

If you go to Advanced Search (there's also a link at the top right of every forums page) you'll see, among the search options, one for "Search by Tag". Enter "tags" (or whatever tag you're looking for) in that box, click the "Search Now" button, and you'll get a list of all threads with that particular tag.

Right now tags are being used on only a few threads so searching by tag may not bring up much. If we tagged more threads, that feature would eventually become more useful.

By the way, the word "tags" as used in this thread refers to search tags, which are entirely different from BB code tags.
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
