I'm having a problem with posting today. Suddenly there is about a 2 minute time lag between pressing the "post" button and the post showing up. At the end of two minutes, a notice appears on the screen saying: "Thank you for posting. You will now be taken to your post". It then takes yet more time before the post shows up.

My posts used to show up pretty much instantaneously. What's changed? I'm pretty sure it's not my browser since I'm having no issues elsewhere on the internet. And this site is working fine for me, except when I try and post.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Hey sundog, I can't give an "official" answer on this, but sometimes the server just seems to get a bit overloaded. That causes it to slow down a lot, I have noticed it happening to me sometimes too. (I think it's got something to do with how many people are online, or are posting at one time, and probably other reasons having to do with backing up information on the server for the website).

It happens to me occasionally. I just stop playing or it drives me nuts.

Sometimes if I delete browsing history and clear cookies, it helps.

Here's a thread where we discussed some similar(?) problems a year or so ago. As far as I can tell, there seemed to be two separate (but similar-acting) issues:

-- Predictable delays in the middle of the night (Eastern time) when I'd expect the server to be busy catching up on reindexing and other housekeeping tasks, and

-- unpredictable delays at other times, possibly associated with a failing hard drive. They stopped after the hard drive actually quit and got replaced.

I've been seeing few or no delays at PC myself in recent months. Last week, though, I was away from home using a paid computer with a satellite connection. The satellite signal turned out to be vulnerable to weather and other disturbances so the connection would sometimes slow to a crawl or go down altogether for a few minutes. That problem seemed to affect all sites but I was noticing it most on Psych Central because that was where I was spending the most online time.

What I usually do with slowdowns and similar problems is just observe and note what's happening until either I notice a pattern to the problem or it stops happening.

Thanks so much for the responses. I think it must be a problem with my browser (Firefox) after all. I did clear my history and delete all caches and cookies, but unfortunately that didn't help. However, when I loaded Internet Explorer and logged into PC with that browser, it started working fine again. I just tried Firefox again, and I'm still having the exact same problem. Anyhow, with IE, it works fine!!

Thanks again!

How odd. When I was having problems like this some months ago, it was because of IE. Now I only use Firefox. However, Firefox won't let me download stuff. For that I still have to use IE.

I agree, it's really odd!! Odder still, I'm at home now and I'm using Firefox and PC is working just fine! So it seems something weird started happening with my Firefox at work. Before I left work this evening I un-installed Firefox and then re-installed it. I didn't have time to check PC but I'm hoping that might solve the problem. I prefer using Firefox because I think it's more secure.

That's too bad Firefox won't let you download stuff. Hmmm. I wonder why that is...Well, it sounds like you have it covered by using Firefox AND IE, so that's good!! (((((((Sabrina))))))
