I view the forums from my iPhone as it's the only way I have internet access at the moment. Athe top of the forum page it says "Forums at Psych Central Mobile". Is there a way to view the forums on my phone the way I would on a computer, i.e. classic view or full site view? I can see other forums normally like I would on a regular computer and would love to view PC the same way on my phone. Some sites give you a choice to view mobile or full site, so I was just wondering if that's possible and if I'm missing that setting somewhere. I don't see PM's unless I am on a regular computer, as well.

I think sites like Facebook and Twitter only have the option to view the full site because its creators expect lots of people to use the site on a mobile device, so they make an advanced mobile version for this purpose. Most social networking websites are like this, but sites with less traffic don't usually have the mobile option. The PC administrators can only do so much with the features given by the forum host (vBulletin), and having a full mobile option might not be included in these. The mobile version of PC does suck, I agree. Hope this helps some xx

Thanks, Indie! I use two other vBulletin forums (a craft one and an abuse survivors one) that are full sites on my phone, and I can use them the same way as I would on a regular computer. That is why I asked in case I'm overlooking a setting or something.

Do you know what version they're using? It usually is printed on the bottom of a forum page in small type. I didn't think vBulletin had this kind of ability, but I guess it depends on the forum and what features are enabled by the site admin. Usually, the newer the versions of vBulletin have more features built into the site.

I'll have to check the other versions and see what they are. Gosh, thanks for trying to help me figure this out. I will have regular Internet again in about two weeks, and I will be a posting crazy woman then. LOL! I hardly post because it's such a pain to type a deep, well thought out post from this tiny phone keyboard.

I have a Blackberry, so it's hard to say how it looks on your iPhone as compared to my own phone. The format though is for mobile only, there isn't the option to go to the full site. You CAN see your PMs (to an extent, some of the info is left off) but you must click your profile button/link while in Mobile and it should be listed there.

I should have mentioned that I view the mobile version from an Android, so what I'm seeing might be very different from what you are.

I've wondered the same thing, Periodot. And I also use other vBulletin sites on my android phone and see the full site. I dislike the mobile version, but I assumed it was because this site was so huge.
I don't see a version number at the bottom of this site or the other one I use, but it has the same footer/copyright, which is: Powered by vBulletin® — Copyright © 2000 - 2011, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. Maybe I'm not looking at the right place? |

Site detection for mobile devices was enabled by default, but now it's been made optional. To change your stylesheet on a mobile device, go here, scroll to near the bottom of the screen, and choose a different style:
http://forums.psychcentral.com/profi...do=editoptions You can also go to the same place to switch back to the mobile stylesheet. DocJohn __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

Noooooo! I can't see a thing now. How do I change it back to the old way from my phone? If I choose a different option, it changes it on my computer too. This is a catastrophe! A major crisis! I post from my phone more than from my computer. Please tell me how to get it back to the old way without changing my computer's settings.
Thanks. __________________ Crying isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of having tried too hard to be strong for too long. |

Abe Lincoln was right - you can't please all the people all the time! Really I don't mind either way, but I don't think I can choose - I am going to get whatever the site default is, because once it is back to the "old" way, I got nuthin' to choose FROM. But it's smaller, faster, more convenient. BUT - y'ain't gonna be gettin' no thankye's from me, that little box ain't on there! Nor dancin' dynomites, neither!

I have checked the link. I simply cannot find an option to change cell phone view to mobile. Please talk to me like I'm stupid. I really need to resolve this.

I may not be the right one to try to answer this since I never use a phone for access, I seldom change my forum "skin", and the options I see might not be the same as yours. Still...
When I look at the Quick Style Chooser at the bottom left of this page, the options I see include "Psych Central" (showing), "Desert Sand", "Spring", "Tulip", "Teal / Black", and "Default Style". Nothing about mobile. When I go to User Control Panel > Edit Options > Miscellaneous Options > Forum Skin, I see a longer list that does include "Mobile". What do you see? |

That's correct. But it changes it on my computer as well. I want mobile on my phone but the regular Psych Central on my computer. If I am not able to have both then my membership is going to be seriously compromised.

I don't think I'm going to be able to have both. What I will have to do is when I know that I will be posting from my phone for a period of time then I will have to change the option on the computer beforehand. When I go back to the computer then once again, change back to default. This is not ideal and is a colossal pain in the butt but it is a way around it.
Edit: No, this isn't going to work. Now all my hidden forums are showing again. I can't change this every single time. This really sucks. Really really sucks. __________________ Crying isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of having tried too hard to be strong for too long. Last edited by Sabrina; Aug 02, 2011 at 04:42 AM.. |
