Every night when I'm online, around this time, PC will load extremely slowly for me. It's not a problem with my connection because all other websites work fine. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, is there a text-only or simplified version of PC that those of us with slower connections can use? Thanks.

I regularly find PC getting very slow right around this time. I don't know the real reason but I've been assuming that something was busy doing nightly backups, indexing, archiving or other maintenance.

It's very similar to what would happen at another site where I used to participate. There, for example, a member could "kill" their own account without any help from the host or admins but the account would stay in "killed" mode (for any member to see) for up to 24 hours. Then, right around midnight server time, there'd be an obvious slowdown, all the killed accounts would disappear, and (as I recall) other updates to the database would also take place. Those slowdowns obviously represented scheduled database maintenance and that's why I'm guessing that ours might, too.
Thanks for this!

Thanks Fooze...I'd never thought of that. Yes it does happen nearly every night around 2am, and then a few minutes later it will return to normal. That's probably the time with the least amount of site traffic.

A search for "slow this morning" in this forum brings me to this response which I made in March, 2008:

http://forums.psychcentral.com/showp...82&postcount=7

Nothing's changed, except that we do do backups more often than once weekly. Even with the powerful servers we're running, it can still impact forum load times.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

DocJohn

Thanks, DocJohn. It doesn't actually bother me since it happens more or less predictably, clears up in a few minutes, and never seems to eat my posts, lock up my browser, or bring down my connection. If I've been meaning to take a quick break or get something from another room, I often do that while I'm waiting.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, it doesn't bother me either, I was just curious as to why this happens. I'm glad it's scheduled to take place early in the morning instead of in the afternoon when more people are online.

I think it can be a bit slow some times is because so many users are online at the same time it can slow it down a bit
