For a new member, how many posts go into moderation queue? I'm looking for the answer because posts stuck in queue for several hours tend to discourage serious discussions.

Hi aoo1, welcome to Psych Central!

I hope this earlier post will help answer your question: Community Feedback & Technical Support > Rules and Administration > Access for New Members. It's over two years old and not all of the numbers may be exactly correct any more, but it still describes the basics well.
Thanks for this!

I have an important feedback- hope it reaches the Admin.

Often a new member may put up a post very enthusiastically, and it may remain stuck for hours in moderation. This can be annoying and atleast discouraging for discussion.

When I posted, I was shown a message that my post has been sent for moderation. Along with that message, please give link for thread Access for New Members . It can help people from a lot of frustration.

BTW, I own a discussion board of 7K people, so I understand these matters very well.
Thanks for this!

Thank you for your feedback.

The moderation queue is necessary to stop forum spam, a serious problem with today's discussion forums. We have a number of features in place to help with this; this is one of the most effective. We remind new members of the moderation of their posts when they register, and again when they receive my introductory Private Message.

While we understand it may be frustrating to wait a few hours for an initial post or set of posts to be approved, it results in a completely spam-free environment for our members. We think it's a small price to pay for such a safe and supportive community.

Best,
DocJohn

It's great to see the Host respond!

See, as I said I own a discussion board, I'm also registered on 30+ boards. My feedback was only to provide the Access for New Members thread link after each post held in moderation queue, because members tend to overlook/forget the auto-generated PM. I have nothing against the moderation policy.

Cheers.
Thanks for this!

Since host may be reading this thread, I will also take the opportunity to +1 another post:

If the site admin is responsive, even through an assistant, it means a lot to the community!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
