I like the new icon but I just wrote a post where I typed l-o-l and didn't want an icon. I didn't realize until I went back and there I saw this new icon and that changed the whole meaning on my post.
 It seems like if you type l-o-l this icon comes automatically. I use l-o-l a fair amount and don't want this icon automatically popping up because there are different laughing intentions - the icon on its back has specific uses.*I had to edit my post and put dashes to avoid the new icon.

My point is - I can't type the common l-o-l anymore and its a bother to use the dashes. I looked at some older posts that had l-o-l and now they have this icon. This icon is great if you're all laughing together but if not used right ...could appear like you're being laughed at. Usually we have to go select our icons, rather than automatically appearing when letters are typed. Am I the only one who sees this??

Is there any way it can be changed to where the new smiley lol doesn't show up every time you type "l o l"? and maybe the code can have *'s or something. i would like to be able to type "l o l" (without spaces)

I think this might need some fixing because usually we have to deliberately choose an icon rather than it showing up when we type l-o-l. Since there are several reasons and ways to use l-o-l it wouldn't be good to have this icon pop up on some posts. It could infer we're laughing together or be seen as laughing 'at someone'. I also don't want to have to hyphenate the l-o-l or put spaces.

I merged the threads, since we're talking about the same icon.
I see what lynn and krisa mean about lol turning into a smiley now, even in older posts where that wasn't intended. It turns out that we already have a :lol: smiley (  ) but how would :lol2: do for the new tag? Can hardly even talk about candy any more: Lollipop, lollipop, hey lolly, lolly, lolly...-------------------- Posted with liberal use of the BBCode noparse tag |

It appears we have to type the : and then lol and then : again to get the original smiley to appear. Not sure about the new one...
Oh, just re-read what Doc John wrote. It's :r-o-f-l: without the dashes. I'll try.

Indie, you have to put the : in front of the lol followed by : again. Or, for the other one, put : and then rofl ended by :
