But there it was, sitting pretty on my desktop this morning. I have uninstalled it but it is a mystery how this landed up on my computer. Only my son and I use the computer and he is not allowed to download without my permission. How on earth would Google Chrome download itself. No viruses so I'm stumped!

A lot of different downloads upon installing, will ask to install various other items as well, such as a yahoo toolbar, or you name it, Google Chrome. It depends on who is sponsoring either the download site, or the program itself. Make sure everyone in your house reads all installation wizards very carefully from now on.

I wondered whether it was your son who downloaded it?
Thanks for this!

There's a program I use (for the life of me, I cannot remember it) that has Goggle Chrome attached--I think you can edit it out if you want, but I cannot remember for sure.

Wish I could be more helpful

Personally I prefer Google Chrome now over Firefox and Internet Explorer. It really is faster.

sometimes when you download other things ie photos, music, movies, and others they automatically come with either internet explorer's latest version or google earth / google chrome or norton virus protection, foxfire or other unwanted programs.

you can stop sites from automatically downloading these things and other unwanted programs by reading the fine print and unchecking the box that allows them to download things, *before* you click the agree button.

then only those items that are still checked will be downloaded when you click the word - agree.

Thanks for this!

Google owns a lot, including GMail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Google_products

It's possible Chrome was bundled with something else you have/use and you didn't realize it. They have a whole thing with their GMail (which other, non-Google companies email companies use as their base) where you have chat and friends, etc. and/or some other site's default could be Chrome and if you don't have it and want to see their site need it (sort of like with Adobe .pdfs).

My son didn't download this. I was the last person to use the computer that night and the first to use it in the morning. When I came on, there it was. It happened sometime during the night when nobody was using the computer.

As Perna said, perhaps it has something to do with GMail, or Facebook even. Just weird, is all.

Every update I get has google chrome attached I remove it entirely each time it sneaks in... often there is a small box to check to not download it, but sometimes I'm sure I miss it.
