Why would people have trouble accessing my social group, A Third Place? I noticed when I tried to type it in the blank space to search social groups, no matches came up. Why is that? Some people have told me they got a message that they can't access it. It's open to anyone, so I don't understand. Thanks for an explanation!!

I think that anyone can read a Social Group Forum, but only those who have joined the Social Group can post on the threads in the Social Group Forum.

Find the social group's name here, click on the group you want to join, then click on the "Join Group" link on the right-hand side. (If you're already a member of this social group, you can ignore this message.)
Thanks for this!

ECHOES, you're right, but it seemed like some people couldn't access the forum at all. I may be wrong, though. I don't know why it doesn't show up when I type the name in the search box, also.

Occasionally when I run a search, the system tells me my search terms were too common. It doesn't actually say that when I search from the Social Groups page for "a third place", but it doesn't return any hits either.

That search does seem to work, otherwise. When I type in "bakers" it immediately finds "Cooks and Bakers Corner".

I gather it can find words (distinctive ones, at least) in the names of the social groups and the descriptions. When I try terms that I happen to know have been posted within the group, though, it doesn't find them.
Thanks for this!

The search box here on the site only searches posts and threads -- not the names of forums or social groups.

That would be the box in the top right corner with a link to Advanced Search under it?

The one I mentioned earlier was "Search Groups" on the Social Groups page (at the right end of the Available Groups bar). As far as I can tell, that one does search social group names and descriptions but not the content of social group posts.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
