I spent a lot of thought and energy on writing a poem, but when I went to post it, a pop up said I had to log in. So I logged in AGAIN. Tried to post, and this time it told me I was already logged in (duh) and to hit the back button to reload the previous page. Which is my poem. I could never get it to post, so I just gave up and lost the whole thing. I am so sad about that I can't even tell you.

Maybe next time you could type it out on wordpad or notepad and then copy paste it when you know for sure you're logged in? At least it would be saved. I'm really sorry that happened.

Well, that is so discouraging!

Are you checking the "Remember me" box when you log in, so you won't get timed out?

{{{ Horse}}}, i have been noticing that a lot lately, that i am in chat, and my profile page expires without telling me, then i have to sign in again, it's a major hassle, not to mention loosing writings~~ what i have found tho, is that if you keep 2 profile windows open all the time, you can sign in on one of them, and the other will update without loosing stuff,, best wishes,, Gus

PC automatically logs you out after an hour of no activity. Unfortunately, writing a post for longer than an hour counts as no activity. If you know you've been writing for a while, copy the entire post. Then all you need to do is paste it into a new post if you have to log back in. If you forget, just press back. The post should still be there, so copy it, log back in, and paste.

How easy it is to recover a post, seems to depend on the browser you're using. My lame old Netscape used to lose posts all the time. The Firefox versions I've been using lately (2, 3, and now 9) are so good at saving stuff that I've been able to get back to a post I was working on even after an hour-long power outage.

If I back up to the page where my post used to be and there's just a blank text-editing box, clicking Undo or Edit > Undo will often bring it back.

Two things --

You can always copy and paste something in one web browser window onto your desktop or into another program (like a word processor) to save it, if it's not saving to the website.

Psych Central does not log you out if you check the "Remember me" checkbox AND have cookies enabled for the site (and ensure they aren't being blocked by an anti-virus or similar software). I'm logged in all the time on my home computer and haven't been logged out in years (I'm running firefox on Windows XP).

Or, you can just copy (Everything will be in blue) and go to edit at top left of screen and hit copy) sign back in and hit paste wherever you are posting.

No I didn't. Thank you for that. I didn't know it would keep me logged in as far as timing out.
