Tutorials have helped me learn fun things. I am so grateful to those who have taken the time to break a thing down and explain it.

Lately, I learned how to take pictures from internet sites and put them in my posts (thanks to a tutorial, and some member feedback.) So, now, I believe it is possible for me to learn cool stuff.
How do you move a photo to an album from a file on my computer?

Next - I would like to start an album that I can put pictures into.

Have been trying . . . unsuccessfully.

I open where it says album. Under "Pictures To Upload," it will say "Choose a File." That last thing will be in an oblong box. That is where I get stuck.

I guess I am supposed to choose from a file stored in my own files on my computer. I do have some pics there. I'm wondering the order of clicks to more one, or other, of them.??

Would anyone be willing to post a "how to" on this?

I would love to learn this. Thank You

How are you connecting to PC? With my browsers (different versions of Firefox) I see...
Upload Pictures

Pictures to Upload
...then several boxes for the locations of the pictures, each with a "Browse..." button to the right. When I click on the Browse button it usually takes me to some irrelevant place on my hard drive -- from which, however, I can step over to where I keep my pictures and select a picture.

It's possible that your browser isn't displaying the Browse button due to some malfunction. If you're using some more minimal kind of interface, it might expect you to insert the URL in the box yourself. I guess I could do that if I absolutely had to; it's not much fun, though, and I'd go a bit out of my way to avoid it. URLs for files on your computer start with file:/// instead of http:// and use forward slashes / instead of backslashes \ -- otherwise they work the same as filenames. Oh, and if there are spaces or other special characters in a file or folder name, you might need to replace them with their ASCII numbers. Please, let's not get into that till we're sure we have to.
Thanks for this!

I almost always use Google Chrome.

Thanks for explaining about URLs. That is real good to know.

I'm going to try some stuff you mention, now.

I might download "Firefox," and then see if I can follow your footsteps better.

I'll post about the progress I make, and may I heartily thank you for your advice.

I have successfully moved photos from my own files to an album. So that's progress.

I'm following in your footsteps up to and right after where you click on "Pictures to Upload." Then it changes. From what you say, I guess that is a function of the browser. That's interesting. I thought all PC members would be seeing the same thing. I thought what came up at that point was a function of the PC web site, so I will try with another browser and see if there is a difference.

What I see, using Chrome (Google) is a column of oblong boxes, inside of each - the phrase "Choose File." When I click on one of them, I get shown a directory for my own files. If I "select" one of them, then a file name appears back on the upload page, if I go back to it. I hit upload pictures and then the image shows up in my album.

I'll play with it some more and report back. It seems I'm not allowed to move an image directly from a web site to my PC album. Would that be what I should expect?

I'm able to download an image from one of those places on the Internet that you get to by clicking on Images of (whatever I'm interested in) and put the image in my computer's memory as a file. Then, I'm able to move it from my computer's memory to the PC picture album that I have started.

Finding the file in my computer's memory is a bit of an undertaking because I never much learned how to organize my files. (Don't worry - I'm not asking to learn that.) I don't have to insert any URL anywhere, I don't think. Man, after I do something, it's hard to recall what exactly I did.

I'll fool with it a bit more and see where I get to.
Thanks for this!

As I understand it, those albums are meant as a way of sharing images from your own computer with other members. If you try to link (in a post, VM or PM) to an image that's only on your own hard drive, not online, the image won't show up. Once you upload something to an album, not only can other members view it there but you can also link to it in posts, VMs and PMs.

If an image is already available online, there's usually not much point in putting a copy in your album too.

Thanks. Looks like I basically have got the process down. Thanks for confirming that the album is for sharing images from my personal files only. I understand that it is an appropriate limitation.

I will experiment with alternative browsers and notice what differences that might cause. I downloaded MozillaFirefox. Once before I had it and used it. This time, I'm having trouble getting it going. I'll get that ironed out and see what it might make easier.

Thanks again.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
