Hi

I managed to install the pod script and I used BeRKA's suggestions for displaying different pod headers.

I watch my log files and often see thousands of pod pages being called by search engine spiders.

The trouble is all the Meta tags (Title, description, keywords, etc) are the same.

Some DMOZ scripts give you the option of inserting the 'category name' or 'specific page url' into your page, headers and footers.

The Google (DMOZ) Directory uses the category url and inserts it into the 'Title Meta Tag': <title>Google Directory - Regional > Oceania > New Zealand > Canterbury > Christchurch </title>

Can anyone figure out how we can adapt 'BeRKA pod header post' to allow the insertion of category related meta tags?

The reason I want to do this is:
A: To increase the relevance of the pod directory pages in search engine results.
B: To have the ability to insert the Category Title or Url at points in the header and footer

I have been thinking about doing this for some time, and when I read Your post
I decided to give it a try. It was very simple and took me about 20 minutes of
thinking and coding, and another 20 minutes to get it the way I wanted it.

See the results at http://www.berka.com/

This is how I did it:
1, I divided the amazon subroutine into two. One part that extracts the category name, and one part
prints the amazon stuff.

2, I called the "extraction of the category" subroutine early in the pod program,
before anything goes into the pod_output string.

3, In (some of the) the header files I could now remove the title and metatags.

4, I added a new string in podvars.pm that I put the header and meta in,
and here I could use the extracted category.

5 In the end of the podvars.pm where everything is put together, I start
with the new "header and meta" string.

Send me a mail if You want to see my code for this...

I think I'd like to give it a try as well. Hats off again to BerKa and Dr. John. If one can't do it the other can.
