Hi,

Okay, so I have a few personal sites (blogs - Tumblr, PsychCentral, and a Flickr photo page) and important websites that I want to link to my profile, but I would like clarification concerning what is permitted with such links in the Guidelines…

For links to other websites, the following guidelines apply:

"Links in your profile are fine. Link to almost anything you want in your profile page, as long as it doesn't violate our sexual, illegal activities, or profanity guidelines."

Well none of the links I am interested in are illegal nor are they sexual, although I am not sure what constitutes 'profanity,' but if that refers to obscene language then they don't.

"Links in your signature are okay, as long as they are to your personal site, a charity, a helpful resource or article you'd like others to know about, a project or non-profit effort. Generally, no self-promotional links are allowed in one's signature; exceptions, however, may be made on a case by case basis."

So personal blogs would be fine? What about to other websites that aren't mine but still aren't sexual nor illegal and don't use profanity?

What concerns me is that the links I want to make (with the sole exception of my Flickr page) are all highly political in nature, including both my PsychCentral and Tumblr blogs; the former I use as more of an online, private journal for everything, including politics, mental health, venting, etc., while the latter is more of a social networking site with no mental health posts. A considerable amount of my time is dedicated to political subjects and I am actively involved with two political organizations (that number is increasing) as I attempt to find a niche for myself in life.

Could someone perhaps explain to me whether my personal blogs and other websites that do not violate those guidelines but are political can be linked to my profile and/or signature? Or would that be violating the other rule of limiting political discussion and subjects on PC?

Little confused. Hope somebody could clarify this for me? .

Profanity would mean obscene language, and maybe in some cases flaming sites and the like. As long as they aren't that, it sounds as if the sites you wish to post in your profile are ok.

A personal blog of yours is fine. Other links must be something you find "helpful" to yourself and think it would be for others as well. I don't think that listing a bunch of links in your signature would be a good thing, but you can always link to your profile for those who wish to see them.

I understand the confusion, but I appreciate that you took the time to read the guidelines and ask for clarification! I hope what I have posted is helpful to you.

Take care!
Thanks for this!
