How can I make my Computer and X-box both be able to be online at the same time with out lagging the other one out or making one of them run slow? - At the present moment I have 2 computers and 1 X-box running off a Router.... the two computers can operate at the same time with out any problems.

Well, the first problem that could be is that the xbox is simply using too much bandwidth or network resources.

The problem with internet is you usually have a finite amount of speed to work with - for example, I have a 10 Mbps(megabits per second) transfer/bandwidth rate, but that doesnt mean that if i download something that is 10 Mbps large it will download in one second. Because you also have to figure in that i am surfing the internet, which could take another couple of Megabits. I could be streaming music, which could also take another megabit or so. And just being on the network itself can sometimes take up a megabit or so in itself.

On top of that, we also have to factor in the transfer rate of the site i am on.

Let's say I am doing all of the above, and am also downloading something that is 1 megabit in size from a site who only allows a transfer rate of 100Kbps(kilobites per second) In this instance, the download transfer rate would be 100Kbps. It always goes by the slowest party in any transfer.

Now what can you do to help this? Well, that I don't know.

Is it one specific computer that always has the problem? or is it fluctuating?

If it's slow to come up then it very likely is not the websites you’re visiting, but something else. 2. The internet service you use is slow. You can compare that to what your broadband provider tells you. 3. Intruders or neighbors using your bandwidth. You can then kick off intruders if you have a supported router for that feature. 4. Something on your network is consuming a lot of bandwidth. This is where www.speedmeterpro.com can help by showing you bandwidth consumption by PC and for your network. The typical bandwidth hogs that slow your network down are applications like Bittorrent, XBOX live, downloading streaming video or just large downloads. 5. It's a bad time of day. If you use cable internet service like Comcast and it's a time of day when your street may have a lot of people using the service at one time. This will slow down your service because there is only so much bandwidth for the segment. Not a lot you can do about this except switch to DSL where you get a dedicated amount of bandwidth. Thanks Rainbow....... I will check those websites out and see if there is any thing on them that might help me out here - - - the only thing is that all 3 items use to run and work well together at the same time until we had to unplug the X-box from the router to rearrange the living room during Christmas (to make room for the tree) and now since we plugged it all back together only one comp and X-box can be online at the same time.... HMM!

Hmmm... which one do you have set up as the primary or main?

It could be that you set the xbox up as the main computer, and the rest are sharing off of it.

Make sure you dont have the xbox plugged into the main slot or slot #1.. Depends on your router though.

NO.... the main comp is set up in the main slot.... it is the 2nd comp & X-box that are sharing the bandwidth (and) yet it is the main comp that cannot get online when the X-box Live is active.... the 2nd comp is fine when the X-box is on.

this is Still a BIG mystery...................................
