I've discovered a program on my computer called Web Cyber Coach. I didn't put it there and it's taking up quite a bit of space. Does anyone know about this....like what is it for and do I want to uninstall it?
I've done a lot of searching and have read hints about it being a problem to other programs. Let me know if you can help me on this. Thanks __________________ His & Hers Depression Blog http://his-hers.ozzieblackcat.com/ Avon Website http://youravon.com/susanking |

Susan,
Is you computer a dell? It looks like, from what I read, that it is something that comes installed with alot of Dells. I also read about people wanting to uninstall it. Do you still have tech support available with Dell? Could you call them and as them? good luck! KD __________________ |

Maybe not KD Have a look at this article.
http://www.michaelrighi.com/2005/07/...pyware-my-way/ And yes, it is a program installed with Dell. Though you should just be able to uninstall it from your Control Panel in windows. Ozzie let me know if you need help with it or if it wont uninstall. Dell is getting more and more shifty every day. |

I don't have Web Cyber Coach. When I called to purchase my computer I had the person on the phone go through each thing on the computer and explain what each one was. If I knew I would not use a program I didn't want it. Then I had them add in what I wanted my computer to contain. Dell computers are custom made which means that when you order it they tell you what your computer package you are looking to buy contains and you have a choice of keeping or removing things before purchase and getting what you want. I looked at buying my computer like some people do in buying a car you go to the dealer and the dealer explains what the vehicle contains and you get the options you want. If I was going to be putting money into it its going to be what I want it to be. The ordering technition was a bit surprised that I wanted him to explain each and every program he said most people don't do that and he really wished they did because many many people call in to complain because they get programs they don't want. So its now DELLs policy to read down an information form on the phone and then after telling the customer what is on their computer they ask the person if that sounds ok and they record the ordering phone call that way they have proof that they sent to the customer only what they agreed to.
With me he said he had to tell me what my computer package would contain and and he would be recording the phone call and asked if that was ok. I told him yes and he read about five items then he said a program I had never heard of. Right away I asked whats that? he told me it was a financial program for keeping buisness accounts I told him to take it out I wasn't going to be running a business any time soon. He said I could use it to keep my bank accounts in order too. I told him to save his shpeal I was the one buying the computer it was not going to contain anything I was not going to be using. and then he went through each item and Web Cyber coach was one of them and he did tell me it would record where I go on the web and send a report back so that DELL knew what types of programs their customers want. Thats how they make up their packages and make deals with microsoft and other computer program companies. I told him nope didn't want it. For every item i said no to I kept a list and when I hooked up my computer the first thing I did was make sure my choices were there and the ones I did not want were not there. DELL is like any other type of company the consumer needs to know what they like and dont like, what they want and don't want in order to make sure what they are buying be it food, clothing vehicles and computers and so on. |

Another thing you should know is, even your virus and spam software may have stuff you don't want. Besides possible tracking programs, some companies pay some software makers, websites and other businesses to allow their content through (I think Hotmail is paid to let anything from Microsoft come through, so you can't filter it out). Advertising, product placement and forced product use is everywhere!

I have MacAFfee virus, spam and firewall. Nothing comes through to my computer that I have set my settings against. As for email I don't open anything from any email addresses. When looking at the in box of emails it tells you the subject line and email address it is from. any company sending advirtizements I don't open them, I just hit delete without reading them at all. Also any advirtizements sent to me to my aol, yahoo or hotmail addresses goes to my "bulk" files and spam filess. and they are automatically deleted by my email companies. I open the "files" just long enough to see if I recieved any newsletters from a couple on line goups that I am a member of and if one is there I move that one to my in box and delete the rest. getting advirtizements don't bother me. they want to waste their computer stuff sending them to me fine its their choice but I do not have to even open them. Its just like getting all those fliers and junk mail by snail mail (normal post office delivering to my house) get things from pizza hut to geiko and they all go in the garbage un opened and read. As long as I use common sense and not open email with addresses that I don't recognize I wont get a virus.

Hey ozzie,
I just went to dell's website and tried to find something about web cyber coach...I couldn't find anything on their site about it...so I joined the forum and tried to post a question about the program and guess what? They wouldn't accept any questions with web cyber coach in the header or subject line...talk about a guilt complex...lol...one thing to remember when uninstalling these types of programs is that their DLL's (dynamic link libraries) are usually shared with other programs...so be careful if you try to uninstall it...I will keep digging for info on this one though... |
