A couple of questions:
1. Where was the original gif located? 2. What did show up where you expected the gif? |

someone had emailed it to me. I wanted to VM it to someone and it did show up in the message box before I hit the "post message" button" but when I hit the button the VM was blank.

Is the original located somewhere online where anyone can see it? Only in that email, in an account that you have to log in to? Only in an email on your computer?
There are ways you can copy an image from an email to your hard drive, upload it to an album at your profile, and link to the copy that's in the album. When reposting pictures from other sources, we hope members will remember our Community Guidelines: Can I post other people's images and photos I found on the Internet here? |

If you copy straight from the e-mail, you have to remember that access to the e-mail is temporary in that it is routed through however many servers and gateways and into your machine. In other words, it's not a stable location that can be accessed from different locations.
To ensure it can be accessible, download the image somewhere on your machine that's easily accessible. Next, upload it to your account on imageshack, photobucket, Facebook, your profile or album on PC, etc... . Copy the URL, then once you're writing the message to whomever, click "Insert Image" and paste the URL. Additionally, by downloading the image to your computer, you can adjust the image in any way, whether it be cropping, changing something or saving it to a different file format. |
