I would love to send the "hidden cat" site link to a friend but is there any danger of it containing a virus or trojan or something like that? (I'm not very tech-minded)

No, that doesn't guarantee it's safe. Anyone can post a link here. It's not likely a site has a virus, but it's possible. That's why people should have a good anti-virus software on their computer.
