As this forum is surrounded by caring, supportive people how about a computer advice section? If any of us need some advice(lets face it we need a bit of help therec dont we?)on windows or whatever.I could use some advice from time to time.

To the people running this forum, would you please ask this forum members if they the\ink a computer advice section would be ideal here?
If there enough votes would you put a section in place here?

To everyone,if you think its a good idea please add your comments here too.

Thanks.

As you know we have this forum for tech support. What kind of information concerns you? I often see Q about how to post an image or chat problems, how to navigate this community and such which are easily answered. More difficult Q might be beyond the average member here although there are several knowledgeable folks.

For Q beyond the every day computer issue I go to a community and have had good results there. -----> http://www.techguy.org/

Members have been and still are more than welcome to post here when they are having computer issues, even if it's not something to do with Psych Central. We have a number of members who have a good amount of knowledge and help others out with their computer problems!

I don't check these forums daily but when I do, this is one of the sections I do check as I have quite a lot of knowledge about computers and basic programming skills in a few computer and web-development languages. The problem with helping people online with their computer problems is enough detail has to be given, ideally a description of what's going on, screen-shots and any error messages (if there are any). Also, if your computer problems happened shortly after downloading something, please give the name of the file (i.e. name.exe). Preferably, don't give the URL in case someone opens it and gets the same problem! The only time I would open it is if I use my other computer and open it in Sandbox. Sometimes you'll be asked to download and run certain programs that can generate log files, which can give further information about your computer and hopefully sort out the problem.

One piece of advice I've often seen given is to clean out the registry. I recommend to NOT do this as it can result in other problems, even if it does fix the current problem.

I dont know why the problem occured.I have done virus scans, spyware scans,
I checked coolike setting and so on.I contacted my internet service provider.
I explained to them it was a problem on this forum no others.Think it might have been the servers for this forum.

I'm having problems here.I got to post in sections when I'm already logged in then I get asked to log in.I'm betting a server fauly. It can't be my computer.I'm able to log into heath forums and post as well as interests/hobby forums, etc. This is the only forum where I'm having problems.

I couldnt even reply to a reply someone made to me before.I had to post it here coz the server isnt working.

It's normal for these forums (and many others) to ask you to log in once you try to submit a post despite already being logged in. Usually this occurs when you take a while to write the post and you time-out.

I'm having trouble understanding the second paragraph because if you couldn't log onto PC, then its server would be unavailable. If you could log in, read someone's reply and send a reply, then the server works.

By the time you posted that, you'd successfully logged in. What was different logging in that time?

Do you have the "Remember me" box checkmarked when you log in? Cookies enabled in your browser, at least for forums.psychcentral.com?

It sounds as though you logged in successfully, then unintentionally got to a similar log-in page and the PC server no longer required you to validate. If you want a shorter route of accessing the forums, use this URL. It will take you straight to the log-in page for the forums without having to click on Home then Community.

No offense but I'm not sure how many people would let you remotely access their system without knowing anything about you other than an anonymous username.

This is the only forum where I'm having problems.I already contacted the moderators here. They thought it was a cookies issue .They suggested the 'remember me" option.Tried that.Didnt change a thing.

Whatever the problem is I still dont know and I'm not going to explain it.

I think I solved the problem.IE9 might have been the problem so I tried a few other browsers.I'm using Avant Browser Ultimate and its working without a problem here in this forum. The other three I use didnt help here.
Thanks for this!
