I have noticed in several threads, that one word will be a link. The link is to some sort of contest or sales thing. Surely this is not the poster's doing?

Here is an example. The word linked is "wonderful"

Edit: when I went back into the post to post, the word linked had changed from "wonderful" to "definitely"

Well, look at that. The word "contest" in my title is linked to some Auto Insurance ad in South Africa.

Edit: the word "contest" in my subject title is no longer linked but the word "auto insurance" above now is

I'm not seeing any of the words as links. I hope someone has some answers for you.
Thanks for this!

I just went back into a thread where I first noticed the link to edit my post and noticed that the link had changed words and that another post further down had a new link. Something's not right.

Edit: even a member's name has now been linked t a win an I Phone contest ....

Right, it is evident that the linked word changes around when I go back into a thread.

I have cleared my history and cookies and run a virus check.

This is malware on your computer (that's why you're the only person seeing it). Download a malware scanner to check it and clean it off:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - CNET Download.com

I have anti-malware on my computer and ran it, it picked up nothing. So I downloaded the link you provided and ran that too. It picked up 3 objects which I cleaned. I am still getting ads . Right now, I am staring at a "New Weight Loss Secret by Dr Oz" at the bottom of the screen. (And I can't close it).

I don't like this at all.

Do you get it if you try using a different web browser altogether (or borrow someone else's computer)?

Do you have any toolbars installed in your web browser??

I cannot borrow anyone else's computer. But I will see what happens with another browser.

I have no toolbars installed. At the moment. I have a drop down menu of some sorts on the right hand side and of course that stupid ad at the bottom that I can't get rid of.

Thanks for trying to help me with this. I really need to sort this out.

Edit: I am typing this from Internet Explorer. My usual browser is Firefox. So far I am not seeing evidence of the ads. So that means something has happened to my Firefox and PC. How do I fix it?

From this link:

I have some sort of bug what underlines/links a random word in a page and then gives an add for Apple stuff, how do I get rid of this? | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support

I found this suggestion:

How To Remove Text Enhance Malware - Text Enhance Virus Removal Instructions | Malware Removal - Software & Tutorials

Make sure there are no add-ons in Firefox that you didn't put there or aren't sure what they do.

Tools > Add-ons > Extensions

Disable anything you don't recognize. Also double-check:

Toos > Add-ons > Plugins

similarly.

I have followed these steps and didn't find anything untoward. Having said that, I disabled one or two things that didn't look necessary.

The pop up ad at the bottom of the page seems to have gone now. And the annoying drop down menu on the right of the page hasn't appeared. But there are still links in posts. I can live with that as long as the pop up ad is gone. I guess I just need to find what is causing the links.
