The reason why is simple -- we post a lot of news headlines in that forum, and it's meant as a simple news reader. If you tried replying to a thread in there, it would quickly get lost or pushed down by new headlines posted. That's why we created the Current Events discussion forum to discuss those headlines or other current events that are of interest to members.
