There seems to be a problem in the social forum. A huge number of threads got moved to the games forum, including a thread Doc John started. I would think Doc John would know where a thread belonged!

It seems misleading to call those threads that were moved, games, in that they are social, motivational, or commentaries. I never would have found them coming here for the first time in not being a gamer, which might be true for others as well. How are emotions a game? Perhaps a sub-forum in General Social Chat would be possible instead?

I started the thread because it was a continuation thread.
The General Social Forum started getting clogged up with these "add to this thread this one thing" sort of posts. While such posts are interesting to some, they are not really a "discussion" -- which is what the General Social Forum is for. Although not a perfect fit, the team feels these kinds of threads fit better within the Games forum, and we ask members to restrict such kinds of threads to that forum in the future. I disagree with serious matters in the game forum.
So, the checking in how you feel today, it's a joke. Why? There's a random thought thread in games, the first post states "remember this is in the game section". I took that as not to be serious , it's to be a distraction thread and not a reminder of crap. Sorry I must not fit in with this all. It's my opinion which isn't the majority. __________________ "A laugh is worth a hundred groans in any market." Charles Lamb

We can evaluate specific threads as to where they best belong, but this was our first best effort. Games does not mean "joke" and joke or "not to be serious" is nowhere in the Games forum description.
This also suggests if we're going to have these threads there, we revisit the name of the Games forum to ensure it isn't off-putting to anyone. Games forum is really for any fast-moving thread, or build-on thread. So we need to think about a good name that captures that diversity. DocJohn __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

I agree with the moving of those quick reply, single answer threads to the Distractions forum...
...maybe they could have their own subforum (rather than in games) under something like Social Interaction or Social Exchanges? __________________ |

Technically (and therefore financially?) it might make more sense, from a computing point of view. I don't know what the technology is now, but we used to take activity of a file into consideration. Like that's why google gets back to you faster now, cuz it doesnt look at the whole world, it first looks at your usual stuff. So I see this as a paradigm shift for pc - reacting to how we are actually using the site and changing in accordance. Not that reacting is a paradigm shift - that IS part of the fabric of pc! But pc is moving. Cool! Change, people! Change or die! Maybe evilution didn't happen x years ago, but it's happening now!

I disagree with these threads being moved too, I know some members have blocked that forum and they liked posting on these threads.

I take part in a large and popular writing site, where they pretty much enable users to write and create anything possible within the realm of writing. This includes things like 'mad libs' or surveys or 'add a line'.
Some of the terms to describe various items are: sliders In and out Interactive story Campfire (something, I don't remember) Some terminology that might branch off one of these or a similar phrase or idea might encompass all that can go in that forum, not indicating that the subject matter is necessarily serious or amusing or anywhere in particular in between. If the point to get across is that the threads are highly interactive, maybe something like coffee house, lounge, etc... I'm not even sure. But both of those places are neutral- people go to meet and engage and exchange but the particular atmosphere tends to be dictated by the people in them, not the space (like the games board... I think?) I hope I am understanding the issues at hand. I apologize if I'm not getting at it quite right. Anyway, just a couple of ideas. |

I think of a forum named "games as a place where people, well, play games. There are thread where members count to a certain number, that sort of thing. I don't frequent the forum often because most of the posting, rightly so, are kind of silly and light hearted. Reading through the replies here it seems others feel the same way.
Some of the threads that got moved from the social forum were about how people were feeling or motivational in nature. They did not seem silly or light hearted. Would it be possible to have a subforum in the social forum for this sort of thread rather than putting them in the games forum? |

What I'm saying and have said is that the "Games" forum is not "light-hearted" or only for "silly" posts and we're going to rename it to reflect this.
The General Social Forum is for discussions. These are not discussions. DocJohn __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

We've created a new forum under the General Social Chat called "The Coffeehouse" to be the new home for such threads and posts. Please use that forum now for such topics. Thank you.

Can we request in the future that if at all possible in the future such a move be brought up to members of the forum....especially the ones who frequent those threads????

Brought up differently how...? This was brought up, discussed, and a resolution found. Perhaps the team was proactive in the moving of the threads, but then again, the General Social Chat forum was taken over by these kinds of threads with no discussion... just members deciding that they were going to post these non-discussion threads in a forum not meant for them.

Yeah, I pretty much agree that it was a not-brilliant idea putting threads of a serious or general conversational matter, into a forum clearly made for games. The coffee forum was a very good idea, though. Relatively small hiccup, so you're forgiven. This site rocks my socks, and many other peoples' socks. I go on those "pointless" (as I call them ) threads, because, well, it's a distraction and sometimes a pleasant one, but that doesn't mean I like seeing the general forum clogged up with "pointless" threads, when you actually want to discuss something. xD So, to reiterate: coffeehouse is a brilliant idea!
