It would be helpful if you posted some more detailed information about

1. Are they not working when you insert them into your post and then post it?

2. Or are they not working in the sense that you don't see them when posted on other people's posts?

3. Have you tried the suggestions listed here? What was the result of trying those suggestions??

http://forums.psychcentral.com/commu...t-%3Do%3D.html

Thanks, the more information you can provide, the more likely it is someone can help you with your issue.

They don't show up in my post or anyone else's. I don't think it's on my end. The rest of the smilies work fine.

I'll try the suggestions in the thread you posted.

What follows is five copies of that image (or of a single frame from it), reproduced in five different ways. Do all of them show up for you? If not, what do you actually see between the > and < marks?

1. > <

2. > The HUG Smilies Aren't Working <

3. > The HUG Smilies Aren't Working <

4. > The HUG Smilies Aren't Working <

5. > The HUG Smilies Aren't Working <

I see five copies of the "Hug" smiley. For me, the first three move, the last two don't.

You can disregard the "attached images" thumbnails below. I was just using them to post some of the images above.
Attached Images
File Type: gif hug.gif (1.8 KB, 74 views)
File Type: gif HugFrame.gif (1,004 Bytes, 74 views)

1 and 2 are question mark gif's. 3, 4, and 5 work properly. They're hugs. 4 and 5 don't move.

Well, now, there's something a little odd happening -- I see the "2." smiley in my original reply but not in the copy where you quoted it. The image URL in the original was:
http://pcf2.psychcentral.com/images/smilies/hug.gif
In the quoted copy (where no image shows up for me), the URL has turned into:
http://forums.psychcentral.com/images/styles/desert_sand/smilies/hug.gif
The HUG Smilies Aren't Working

I'd like to see what DocJohn makes of this. I'm not sure if it has any bearing on your original problem or if it's a separate one. By the way, is the Desert Sand "skin" the one you're currently using? Do your results change at all when you switch to the Psych Central skin (which I used for the above test)?

If it works for you in one browser but not others, then you've got your answer.

As I say regularly to these kinds of threads -- we rarely make changes to our servers or templates, and when we do, dozens or hundreds of people are affected (and let us know when something is wrong).

When it's a one-off problem of this nature, it means something wonky is going on with your web browser, or a plugin or firewall protection that stops animated GIFs for instance.

The skins don't change or alter the content or body of the posts, so it's likely the changing of the skins just refreshed or reset your browser's cache files, so that images were properly reloaded from the server, and then displayed properly. I can switch between all the skins and the hugs show up correctly in all of them.

Glad it got figured out.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
