what is a thread and how do i get to it?

a thread is what you just created.

so a forum topic

in each of the sub categories, all the new messages are threads
then with in a thread, all the messages are people responding to the thread- and that's called replies

A thread is just a series of posts -- one person starts by posting something on a topic and others reply.

It takes people a while to get the hang of boards, don't put yourself down for it. No such thing as a stupid question. And everyone was new to this once.
