Complex Trauma is my current diagnosis. I know there is some argument around it, however, it is still my diagnosis, and it is not in the PC list.
Could this be added please? I know I am not the only person here with this diagnosis. And I do feel the features that distinguish it from PTSD are important enough to warrant a place on the list - I personally don't really feel validated using PTSD. __________________ The best way out is always through --- Robert Frost Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo |

That has been asked here before. I am also Complex PTSD and I guess until it is an "official" diagnosis it will not have its own catagorie so for now post under PTSD or personality disorder.

See, if it's on my notes, it's "official" enough. There is enough published literature to outline the distinctions between the two. If we waited for everything to be in the DSM we'd severely stunt therapeutic progress (if it is diagnosis-driven) - it takes years. Another option would be to have: "Other Specified Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorder" which is in the DSM, and the the member could then be given the option to specify how their diagnosis is different from the main trauma/stressor conditions. __________________ The best way out is always through --- Robert Frost Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo |

Do you think the Survivors of Abuse forum is not the right place?

I think there is some confusion over what I am actually asking here.
I am not requesting a forum for Complex PTSD. I am requesting an option in the drop-down list of diagnostic concerns, in the member profile page, for Complex PTSD. __________________ The best way out is always through --- Robert Frost Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo |

Proud of you for firmly stating what it is that you want and need and not accepting or settling for incorrect titles/labels in lieu thereof!
I spelled it out in my profile under "Support & Information For" where it asks what "My Mental Health Concerns" are ... Still, it would be more appropriate if it were a listed as a distinct category under "Primary Concern", "Secondary Concern", and "Additional Concern" ... Hope you are not only heard, but are also successful in your attempt to get it added. , Pfrog! |

This appears to come down purely to whether it is detailed as such in the DSM. But the efficacy of the diagnostic criteria and the DSM has been in question for ages, and PTSD/Complex Trauma is one of those areas. I think it would be wiser to heed the growing literature supporting this diagnosis, and listen to the individuals given this diagnosis over the DSM, which can take years to reflect actual changes in psychology. __________________ The best way out is always through --- Robert Frost Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo |

Aspergers was recently dropped for the DSM and was then dropped from the diagnoses list here. http://forums.psychcentral.com/commu...snt-exist.html
I think unfortunately the list here really is dependent on the DSM. |

thats not saying you cant let people know what your mental disorders are on your profile if its not in the drop down part of the profile...... there is the option of ....other.... and there is a place in the profile where you can write anything you want called.... biography.... in the profile.there is the ......status line...... part of your profile, where many people write what their mental disorders are. some people use the signature line for writing what their mental disorders are, their meds and anything else they like for that line. some people use the .......location line....... part of the profile to list their mental disorders or anything they want others to know about their self. |

DocJohn is the only one who can make changes to that drop down list. I will flag this thread for his attention.

There are other things in the drop down menu not in the DSM. Just saying.
And yea, there is an issue with different manuals, I am diagnosed ADD but I have to choose ADHD as my diagnosis. I have never been diagnosed with that but what can I do? __________________ |
