i changed my title and the little motto under it, and now the signature under my Avatar is always reverting to what's under my Profile Title. i've worked with this on Edit, and got it back to being different one time, but the next time i signed on, there it was, the same again. Help ?

Maybe you need to use a different named file even if it is the same picture in signature and avatar.

Not really sure what is wrong. Show us how it should be and how it is if possible.

a 'Custom Title' is set in Edit Details, while the Avatar's motto is just an Edit on the profile page. there is also an Edit under the Custom Title.

for over a year, since the Custom Title was instituted, i have had various ones, with a little saying under it. i want this one to be "Energy is Not Lost". but if i use Edit to put that, it changes the motto that appears under my Avatar when i post to the same. and if i use Edit under my Avatar in Posts to change it back to "Be Here Now", then the motto under the Custom Title changes to that~!

if there is some secret vocabulary to explain better, i do not know it.
thanks for your offer to help ~

Avatar and Title the same
In the screen shot above...
  • "Gus1234U" is your Username.
  • "Entrant" is your Custom Member Title. As you correctly stated, the Edit Your Details page is where you can set or change that. The Community Guidelines page, about 2/5 of the way down, gives a few more details on who can have a custom member title and what kinds of titles shouldn't be used.
  • The picture is your Avatar and appears next to all your posts. It's not to be confused with your Profile Picture, which shows a woman standing in water and appears only on your profile page.
  • "Be Here Now" is your Status Update. You can change it by clicking on the Edit link next to it (and clicking "Edit" again to save the changes when you're done).
I'm confused because you seem to be saying that you want to change one of the above and even describing how that's done, but then you apparently use a different control and change the other instead. I gather that you've successfully changed your Custom Member Title at least once before, or it would say "Elder" (the default title for someone with 5000+ posts) instead of "Entrant".

Yes, Fooze~! i have changed both 'mottos' before, and they were different, using the Edit function. now it has stopped working. if i change one, the other auto changes to match it~! how frustrating~

thanks for trying to understand.

So let me try to get this straight.
  • You scroll down to the Optional Information section and the Custom User Title box.
  • It tells you that your current title is "Entrant". You type "Energy is Not Lost" into the box, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click the "Save Changes" button.
  • Instead of your Custom User Title changing to "Energy is Not Lost", your Status Update changes instead.
After you click "Save Changes" and navigate back to that same page (Edit Your Details again), what does it then show as "Your current user title"? On your Profile page (or any page with one of your posts), what does it show as your Status Update (the line with Edit after it)?

no no no,, that is completely not what happens. you had it right before. i want my special title to be Entrant. that part is OK. it's the 2 EDIT buttons that won't seperate. whatever i type in one shows up in the other ALSO. i have changed them so you can see. i want the one under my Title "Entrant" to be:
"Energy Is Never Lost"; and the one under my avatar on posts to be "Be Here Now". that's how it was on my avatar for all these 4 1/2 yrs, until i changed to this latest Title. then something went wrong. EDIT is unified into one function.

thanks for your prompt attentions ~

That would mean making "Energy Is Never Lost" the second line of your Custom User Title. I just tried doing that for you but it didn't work. My title has two lines, but DocJohn sets it up that way for Community Team members and I can't make the same method work in other profiles. If you were able to create a two-line title before, a system setting may have been changed in the meantime. Sorry, Gus.

Is your question, how do you get another line to print out under "Entrant"? Like the people on community support do? I would guess its because their custom titles are extremely long, or they hit a carriage return in the middle of it. Maybe you had a CR in your previous title? I dont think there is another separate field under there.

You have ONE custom title (the thing under your username) and it does not allow HTML, so you cannot make it have two lines. You can add periods or dashes or something to space it out, but it's all one field.

We've never allowed a user to have more than one custom title. If a member has multiple titles under their username, it's because they are members of one of the support teams here.

i can't see where any of my posts are about wanting more than ONE custom title, or about trouble with my custom title at all. it is only mentioned to indicate the LOCATION of the Motto that goes under it, which every one can have, and i have had as long as i can remember.

the Problem is: if you look at my posts you will see that the Avatar motto, which has always been "Be Here Now" is the same as the Motto UNDER the Custom Title. if i change one using EDIT on my profile page, the other changes ALSO. this is NEW and has only been happening about 2 weeks~!

i only want the Motto under the Custom Title to say: Energy Is Never Lost ; and my Avatar motto in posts to remain the same as always.

Thanks

Are you using the same image file for both your avatar and your signature? I would create two different image names even though the picture is the same and see if that fixes it.

corrections: do NOT click on the "Reset" box, and the function may be accessed thru "Edit my Details" on the Customize Profile function. enjoy
