I try and log into chat but the page is stuck in a perpetual state of loading. Is this an issue with my Kindle?

I'd think it's more a problem with your internet connection. It might be temporarily having problems.

Hmm. I can access the site just fine, but not the chat. Is it really internet connection issues?

Oh, not sure. The chat is part of the site so maybe the chat requires a lot more power than the forums. Sorry about that.

I would try the link in the menu that says "Mobile Chat" and see if that loads. I suspect that would be the only way to access the chatrooms on a Kindle Fire.
If that doesn't work, it may just be that that platform is not currently supported by the chatrooms...
