Its come to my attention that Psychcentral has control over all of your posts and limits how many posts you can have deletes from your own profile. I don't htink this is fair. I think that we should be able to choose what posts we can delete, be it for whatever reason. What do you think?

I'm not sure how I feel about that, every time I post I keep in mind that it will be on the internet forever somewhere whether I "delete" it or not

Admin has address this in the tech forum. There's a limit on how many posts we can delete because of people who abuse it. I've been at sites that allow unlimited deletes. A minority of people who abused the ability made a hash of the forums. It got ugly. I agree with managements limit on deletions.

If you have a post you really want removed you can "report" it and ask that an admin delete it for you.

If I want to delete a post I edit it, delete what I've written, and replace what I've written with words or emoticons.

Of course, this only works as long as a post can be edited.

we do have a choice to delete our own posts but there is a time limit on that. I read somewhere that the reason there is a time limit is because of the replies wont make any sense if members can go in after a time limit and after reading the replies change, edit and delete their posts. it leaves those replys making no sense and the people replying confused as to what is going on and whether the poster was actually just playing mind games with everyone.

i agree that its best that the deleting and editing after a time limit should be left to those in authority who's job it is to keep the boards safe, on track and clean so that the servers dont get bogged down with threads that make no sense due to members editing and deleting, playing mind games with those replying to the posts.

to delete your own post all you need to do is choose the edit button (with in what ever the time limit is possibly 4 hours after post has been made which in my opinion is plenty of time to second guess whether one wants that post out there) then delete the post and in its place write the words deleted. I have seen many posts like this on the boards.

and also after the time limit anyone who wants their post deleted just needs to hit the report post button and write a note in the slot to let the moderators know you want the post deleted and why. I have done this myself and its easy to to and the moderators are very helpful with this as long as you detail why you dont want your post on the boards.

a tip i use for myself when posting is I never post anything I would not stand out on the street and tell just anyone out there. I dont post anything that I would not want my friends, family and treatment providers to know. i have this rule for my posting online because its not secure. people do not need to register for an account or log in, in order to read the posts. by posing limits like this on me, i can be assured that I am posting things I dont have to worry about being outted, accidentally disclosed or otherwise out there that I dont want on the internet.

I think the moderators are doing a great job of keeping this site safe and what its meant to be for and are very accommodating when accidental postings need to be deleted.

Hi, while I appreciate people's thoughts on this matter, this is our policy based upon technical limitations of the software we're using. And since we're not doing any major updates or upgrades of this software, it's not one that can change in the future.

It's a clear policy that's been in our Help section for years.

I am sorry if this policy is inconsistent with some members' desires for something else.

Well, the reason I I feel so strongly on the issue myself is that I like to remain fairly anonymous and I've had a couple instances in recent weeks where two different people in my daily life said something that was seemingly straight from a post I had put up the day before and I don't like people being able to identify me and then perhaps reading through old posts that are quite personal that I'd rather them not knowing about me because of the sensitive nature of my posts (trauma that I've been through, my past struggle with addiction or ED, etc)).

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
