Is there a way to turn off the Recommend pop ups that appear in the lower right hand section of the screen? They block the content I'm trying to read and it's annoying to have to keep closing the same box over and over. Thanks.

To my knowledge this site has no pop ups or adware. Maybe you have a virus?

I don't have those but I couldn't tell you exactly what prevents them. I use Firefox and have multiple ad blocker and script blocker add-ons. I guess at least one of them is working

Good thought. More likely adware or malware than a virus.

Sounds like you have an adware/malware/virus issue on your computer.

Just to clarify...

The site that makes this community possible -- Psych Central -- is ad-supported. We have four ads per page on psychcentral.com. We also have recommendation engines running, and one of them exhibits the behavior the OP discussed. Unfortunately, there's no way to turn this pop-up off at this time.

The community itself (the forums & support groups), however, is (nearly) ad-free after you've logged in. If you have not logged in, you will see ads. We do not have a recommendation engine running on the community, so you should not see any pop-ups here on the community forums.

Best,
DocJohn

You can try downloading AdBlockPlus. It'll block almost all pop-ups and even some regular ads.

Thank you to all who responded. I don't think I explained myself very well. Nothing is being advertised and it's not the Today on Psychcentral column. A box with images opens again and again recommending the same two articles. The recomended articles seem to change on a daily basis. Today it is recommending me to read 4 ways to be kind to yourself... and Exhausted mothers... It reads +Add This.
