A popular thread, "You know you're getting old when..." was removed due to some links containing malware. A new thread was started.

Someone please help out a dinosaur! I rarely post links, and if I do they are from this site. I'm guessing you get some kind of warning, but I've never seen it. I'd think you may not always see it, since the people behind it would want to be invisible I'd think.

I should point out I don't have my own computer. I have to access Internet at public places that have it, or my senior center.

It seems some links to images had it, but I never opened any of the links in the thread on getting old.

I'd never want to post any links that have malware, but how would I know if it does in the first place?

I did search this forum for "malware" first, and some threads came up. BUT due to a time limit, I don't have time to view them to see if my question is answered.

How would one know a page or link has malware?

Hmmm....looks like some good tips in here.

Malware can be delivered in many, many different ways. As many ways as you can imagine (and then some). Two of the more common ways are to visit an infected website, or to click on a link in an email you received (that then takes you to an infected site, or opens an attachment that has the malware in it).

Our site has never been infected. What happens is that members post images they find online from at-the-time-of-the-posting were okay sites with no malware. Sometime later, that site that has the image on it gets infected by malware. They may be delivering the image just fine still, but somewhere else on the site is malware (malware can't be transmitted just by viewing an image).

Now our site is directly linked to a site hosting malware. This trips off Google's malware detectors until we get the links removed. Users here aren't at much risk, but Google and others err on the side of caution.

Hope that helps explain it more...

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
