I see them in other's posts but don't know where to get them in my posts. Are they under smiles? Where do I find them and how can I use them?

If you click on "Go Advanced" the trigger icon is there.

When you click Reply, scroll down and you will find the message icons. The trigger icon is included. Tick the box and submit your post/thread and it will have the icon you chose.
 Of course this is if you not using the Quick Reply method.
