From time to time, we find researchers in the world who understand the value of community and want to partner with us to help further scientific inquiry.

To that end, Psych Central & the World Well-Being Project invite you to participate in a research study to help us better understand well-being (e.g. how happy or unhappy you are) and expression of yourself on social media sites (like Facebook).

What Data Can I Share?

You can confidentially share your test & quiz answers from Psych Central as well as your twitter and Facebook data (statuses, images, and profile) using our secure application.

No other data is being shared; none of your community posts or replies will be shared. If you have not taken a quiz or test at Psych Central and saved your answers, this research won't apply to you. If you do not use social media, this research won't apply to you.

Your Privacy

If you choose to participate, your information will only be used to help our research; it will be kept confidential and stored on our secure server. We will never reveal data about individuals. We will never share your information for commercial purposes or advertising.

All of your data will be completely anonymized, meaning none of it will be personally identifiable to anyone working on the project.

Your participation is completely voluntary. You may withdraw your participation at any time without penalties by deleting the application through the Application Settings in your Facebook account. Data previously collected will not be able to be deleted later if/when you request to be deleted from the Application. There are no foreseeable risks to you for contributing your data to our research through this application.

If you have questions about the ethical approval and Institutional Review Board Procedures regarding this research at the University of Pennsylvania, you can contact irb@upenn.edu. You can find further information about the Institutional Review board and points of contact at Regulatory Affairs website.

Participating in the Research: Donate Your Data

You can participate in the research now by clicking on this link to begin the process and agree to the informed consent. This link will take you to the research project's website.

(You can change this participation preference at any time by going into your Edit Your Details page and changing the setting for "Donate your data?")

If you choose to participate in this project, on behalf of myself and the researchers, I thank you.

I would like to participate, although I haven't taken a quiz here in ages, should I retake some quizzes, so that my data is more up to date before joining in?

Sure, as long as you answer the quizzes just like you normally do, that would be helpful. Thanks!

Psych Central has always been helpful to me that I welcomed the opportunity to give back. I tried and gave up up after about ten minutes. Should it take that long when you have a limited presence on social media? I have kept my illness very private for personal, professional, and legal reasons. Assuming that I would be able to reenter the workforce at some point, my profile reads retired and not terminated from my job and on disability.Should I try again? Thank you.

Ooh, no way. Too big brother for me. Don't want anyone I don't know "analyzing" me for their purposes. Too much of that already going on with social media. I certainly won't do it voluntarily.
Thanks for this!

I don't have enough of a digital footprint to do this. No Twitter, no Facebook, no blogs, haven't taken any tests here in ages. But do let me know of other research I might be able to contribute to.

I am scared if I participate it would end up hurting innocent people. I have a lot of problems and am scared about this option.

Just to be clear, that's why the research is completely voluntary. You need not do anything if you don't want to participate in it.

When the study is done, will the results be posted to PC? I'd be very interested in that.

I am a social science researcher and have seen how analysis of social media can do a lot of good. All good research projects go through ethical review and researchers treat data very seriously and with respect in very much the same way as a health care professional would respect patient confidentiality.

Sadly, I can't take part as I am not in the US and my social media presence other than here is limited.
Thanks for this!

Took one late last evening. I've been doing better with showering lately. Got to start brushing my teeth more than once a day.

Have to get through a meeting today that I anticipate with anxiety. Be glad when it's over.

Wow... it's like NWO or something. Why would they need to understand how you "feel" and your personality just by how you use language? I should add I'm not diagnosed with paranoia, but stuff like this make me feel... paranoid.

Wow, tests & FB stuff Im willing to put out there dont even touch on the crap Ive gone through all my life or REALLY how those dysfunctional people that were a part of my life effected me & that I have been able to work through these last 10 years whenfinally gettibg away from them. I dont put that stuff about me out on FB because of the people I interface with...& tests dont show what struggles living around those people REALLY cause in your life....like looking at the tip of the ice berg & analyzing that while the body of the ice berg is what sinks the ships.

Wonder just what QUALITY analyais they can arrive at with that LIMITED information?

I keep getting forced onto this thread. That green box in the upper right screen seems to magically relocate under my finger (I'm using a touchscreen tablet.) when I try to tap on the last page of any of the various threads I'm following. I'm getting really sick of this.

Pretty cheesy. Not what I expect from PC.
