Why is there an "Adult" chatroom? I thought adult subject matter was against the guidelines....

heres a thought of mine for the separation of chat rooms... there are some teen agers here. teen agers and adults have different kinds of problems when dealing with mental disorders...example not only are teenagers dealing with depression but they are also dealing with acne. adult women not only deal with depression but menopause also affects a womans depression. adult men also have their own issues while dealing with mental disorders.

now imagine an adult woman talking in chat room about how their menopause is affecting their depression level how is the teen ager supposed to relate to that... most teens dont understand what menopause is let alone how it affects depression.

or maybe a guy who is having problems with their prostrate how is a teen aged girl or teen aged boy going to be able to relate to that....

adult chat doesnt necessarily mean sex and XXX rated conversations. it just means adults have different problems and views with going through mental disorders then the teen agers do.
Thanks for this!

As far as I know... sex talk is against guidelines. The adult room is for other adult topics. There used to be a teen room just for teens, not sure if that is still there though.

I must think very hard to think of an adult oriented topic, and all I can think of is family and health problems.

It is for mature or adult topics. Explicit sex talk is banned in the chatrooms; it is not for that.

It's not adult in a sense of sex. More like grown up chat. Adult topics could be marriage or parenting or finances or medical etc
Thanks for this!

We have some issues that come up that are upsetting to ppl, not necessarily against guidelines but uncomfortable at least. It is a lets say safe haven for ADULT themed topics. NOT always sex, there are other topics that the younger bunch think is boring as well so it gives an alternative room to go to for a small group to feel safe to discuss topics that are ummm more ADULT i guess, You guys are overthinking the intent of the room.

I don't know. The term "adult" is too much. If another room is needed call it something else. Something less misleading.

Besides, there was some concern about having such a room back when we had flash chat. People can and will abuse a room titled Adult chat.

Isn't the site first and foremost a support site? Does there honestly need to be discussion of such content that can't be had in the coffeehouse?

The room was the same name in the old chat system, so it's not at all clear why you are bringing this up here now. Our rules are clear, so there will not be "abuse" of the room.

unfortunately the very reason the room was needed was someone came in for support and it was pointed out that there are rooms for different reasons, ie ES for emotional support, coffeehouse for casual talk and there was no where for ppl to go that just wanted to chat like adults do, the name is unimportant , there is also some generational things that some more umm older members can talk about thing that pertain to them that the younger crowd don't like. we had a grown up talk about constipation one day there were 4 of us and it wasn't breaking any guidelines it was just support for someone of the older set. there maybe times when a small group of any age just wants to go and get away from the hustle bustle of the coffeehouse. No need to get upset tho,its just a room. In my mind it doesn't seem sexual at all but rather laid back an quiet.
thanks for your concern tho
