This last month, I've had three separate people ask me why I haven't responded to their private messages. I didn't get the messages they specified. My inbox is not even close to being full, and I do still get some private messages, it just seems like a few get lost along the way randomly.

Probably nothing that can be done about it, but I thought I'd check to see if others have had this issue.

I'd bet that it has to do with the spelling of your name. I'm not positive about this but I do know that there have been issues in chat when someone has a non standard character in their username.

You can change your user name if you want to. To quote the FAQ:

How can I change my username? Members can change their username once and only once with no explanation or special permission needed. Simply send a private message (PM) to one of the site's administrators (not DocJohn). Member names have to conform to our community guidelines, be between 4 and 19 characters in length, and not already taken by an existing user. We allow only one username change per individual.

question do you mean in chat rooms or in your profiles private message box?

reason I asked it because your original post sounds like the profiles private message box then someone replied about chat room...

if you have someone on ignore when they are sending you a message to your profiles private message inbox you will not see their message even if you have taken them off pm after they sent the message....

I have had people ask me why I did not answer their private message (the one sent to my profiles pm box.) I then had to explain to them my triggers vary some days something small will trigger me so for that day a person may be on my ignore list. during that time I dont receive any pm's by that person. kind of like getting a busy signal they may have to try again since they dont receive a notice when I have them on or back off my ignore list.

I frequently use the ignore listing when I am having a hard day so my moods dont affect others so after I explain the ignore list and not receiving pms by those on my ignore list I get a smilie back with a detailed pm on what they wanted to tell me by pm.

if you are a person that uses this self care option of ignore list this may be why you are not receiving some of your pm's that are in your profiles pm box. they may have sent their pm to you when you had them on the list then after you took them off the list they are wondering why you havent answered them back.

Bjornen, check your PM settings (in Edit Options) in the control panel. I have mine set to having only friends able to PM me. You might have set yours like that also.

I brought up chat because I've known problems there with odd characters. I was saying it could be the same with PMs.
