I was just wondering what threads were considered community threads, and which weren't. This isn't made very clear in the guidelines.

I was told that threads that weren't looking for support were considered community threads, but this isn't always the case. For example, what if I made a thread on how much I love crayons. This thread isn't looking for support, so does that make it automatically a community thread? I'm not asking a question in it that would involve input from the whole community, just voicing my love of crayons. Would all threads in Chit Chat be considered community threads then? They aren't all looking for support there, and I'd sure like to make my own threads in that area without the firm hand of the guidelines bearing down on me.

It's all very confusing. Honestly, this needs further clarification.

Also, could the guidelines be amended to add this new guideline into them. I looked over them and saw no mention of not posting community threads if you have someone on ignore. It's nowhere to be found.

Why are you always so worried about the pedantic wording of guidelines Artchic?
Thanks for this!

The community guidelines aren't a legal document, so it's not surprising not every term used therein is first defined. It would also make them 20x longer, making them even less likely to be read.

Here's what's in the guidelines today:

Quote:
Members who have other members on their Ignore list should not start community/group/game/party/holiday threads, because it would limit who could post to such a thread; such members should ask a community support team member to start the thread instead.
A community thread is any thread where the OP starts it with the seeming purpose is to elicit an ongoing, reply-to-my-reply type of thread. Any type of daily or weekly check-in thread, anything that is meant to be ongoing and welcoming of all members' input to keep it going.

A community thread is NOT a thread where the OP is sharing their personal situation or experience, and asks what others think, or wants feedback from others about how they might see the situation or experience, or asks for emotional support for their situation.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
