i would very much like to see a Diabetes sub-forum in the Health Support Forum. this deadly disease is often associated with med-related obesity and liver damage, and many of us are struggling to save our sight, our limbs, and our lives, without much support. there is such a lack of information given to people who have diabetes, that we are prone to supposition and superstition in our self-care.
very much appreciated~! ![]() ![]() ![]()

That would be good, for me stopping Mirtazipine was one of the things I did to help turn around my diabetes as it was a huge factor in weight gain and carb addiction over the years.

I think a diabetes sub-forum is a terrific idea. I don't have diabetes, but my glucose is 2 points into the "pre-diabetic" range. I have gained a frightening amount of weight from Seroquel. I ask my doctors about being pre-diabetic and they just blow it off, leaving me confused.

Stress and medications can play havoc with diabetes and bsl levels. Sounds like a very good idea.

I'm in agreement with everyone, I'd like to see a sub-forum for diabetes support as well!

Not every case of diabetes is due to obesity, sometimes it's just a result of the genetic lottery. Anyways, I'd also like to see a diabetes subforum.

I don't have diabetes. But I think a sub-forum on this subject could be of great help to those who do. I certainly support your suggestion!

while I support a diabetes subforum, I seem to remember posting a while back requesting a subforum for agoraphobia and was told if they did that, then everyone would want subforums for their own anxiety issue, and it would just get to be too many.
so it could be the same here if we got a forum for diabetes, then people might start requesting other sections.. azma, cancer, epilepsy, heart problems, etc etc. as a note, I think all those sections are a good idea, but like with the agoraphobia thing, not sure if it will happen. maybe a better idea would be... once a month members vote on an idea submitted by the users- here's the 2 ideas we have- a diabetes forum or one on cancer, which ever gets the most votes is the forum we'll introduce and then their wouldn't be an issue of adding forums for everything, because we'd just do it again with new ideas submitted, and see what gets the vote. |

I would like to see a diabetes sub forum. I have Type 2 diabetes and it has really been rough on my depression. In fact if you google "diabetes" and "depression" you will get well over 140,000,000 results. Depressed people who get diabetes usually have it much worse when they get diabetes and a lot are known to not follow their diabetic health plans as they should. I am going through this part right now. I'm not taking my Metformin, I'm eating wrong, smoking and when I ever I get my income I get drunk. This is not caused by being lazy or pesimistic. This is caused by depression over having gotten diabetes on top of already having had a depressive disorder. We NEED this sub forum. I support this idea!

yes, diabetes is not a 'stand-alone' condition~! because my doctor mistreated me, i am developing glaucoma (high pressure in the eyes), a major cause of blindness in people with diabetes. i am also dealing with neuropathy, also commonly seen with diabetes.
i had been controlling my blood sugar for 4 yrs, til i got this new doc, who believes higher is better~! he is so ignorant, and i don't know how to educate him~ and yes, this is all contributing to a return of my depression, which i had eliminated for 7 yrs. thank you all for your support and understanding~! a 'Social Group' on this topic was started years ago, and has been dormant for 5 yrs. we could at least start there, and hope for enough members to create a Member Forum.

I'm sorry to hear it's such a problem for so many. I've always thought being dependent on insulin would be a terrible inconvenience.

If u look under personality place, or addictions there are subforums for quite a few problem areas. I don't see why it can't be done for other forums

I've already posted here. I'm hoping Doc. John would see this and reply to our request. If not, I suppose we can make a thread in the health support forum.

Thank you for the suggestion. I can see and understand where folks are coming from with it...
Unfortunately, I've only seen 13 threads started in the health forum in the past year on this topic, which averages out to be one new thread a month. That's not enough to warrant starting a sub-forum at this time, but you're welcomed to use the existing social group to have your targeted discussions about diabetes. I understand how some people view chronic health conditions like diabetes as being "different" than other health conditions. But one could argue for a lot of different health conditions just as large as diabetes deserving their own sub-forum. We're not a general physical health website, so I'd hate to start a precedent where every chronic and non-chronic health condition starts wanting their own sub-forum.

I am diabetic. It was an adult-onset type 1. It's an auto-immune attack on my pancreas's beta cells that make my insulin. So I lost the ability to make the insulin. Now, I have an insulin pump that gives me insulin around the clock. I think it's due to the chronic viropathy in my pancreas leftover from being born with the rubella virus. Who knows.

it appears that there are a lot of people who don't start threads, but post or reply to one. i know there are fewer people than this in other Support Threads. that's all we're asking, a place to support each other while we try to stay alive.

So we do have a forum that is not super-active that covers this concern, so I'd suggest posting there about diabetes, since it is considered a "chronic disease:"

i hope you will join with us to create a place that is safe and friendly, for people with Diabetes to check in and get good information.
per Doc's suggestion, a thread is now open in Chronic Diseases. https://forums.psychcentral.com/disa...ml#post6003361

There is thought to be a connection between diabetes and depression. If not on PC where else? I’m all for a sub forum. If you build it they will come. Look at the exploding anxiety categories. I’m all for that development too.

"If you build it, they will come" -- unfortunately that's not been my experience with how online community works. You need a specific, active set of members interested in a topic in order for that topic to take off in a community setting. You can view our index page to see how many forums we have that have little or no activity, so we're usually reluctant to add to that list without a clear demand.
Since I posted the suggested forum to post to, there's been 2 new threads created and one of those threads has 28 replies. So that's a good response and I'm glad we found a home for this topic here in the community, using an existing under-utilized resource.
