Hi Community,

I was wondering what people thought about this idea... I posted a thread recently and it has garnered some controversy. Here is the thread:

https://forums.psychcentral.com/psyc...dangerous.html

In light of this, I was wondering if the community would support and allow for a sub-section specifically for survivors of unethical therapy and or healthcare. This would allow disinterested users to safely steer clear while also allowing victims and survivors a chance to have their experiences heard and connect with others. However small a voice we survivors may have, we have every right to express our opinions and experiences. Perhaps this is a way to go about it?

Thanks,
HD7970ghz

I think this is a dangerous slide downhill. This is suggesting that those who dissent with your opinion should not be included. You have made it clear they are not welcome. This is dangerously close to censorship. As said before, the airing of all sides and points of view is necessary to healthy discussion. The creation of such a one-sided thread discourages such debate. Otherwise I fear such a forum will descend into that of rants and rumination which succeed in only a perceived validation of one interpretation. The only only thing it may succeed in is riling emotions. Debate and exchange of ideas and experiences are paramount to our human experience. They are needed.

This idea has been floated before. I think there is already an unused social group out there. People said they preferred not to be excluded / ostracised from the main psychotherapy forum for not holding positive opinions.

See post #14 in the thread below. It takes you to an invitation only social group. I dont think the person who created it is still active, but maybe the ownership can be transferred?

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to start a subform on the same topic as a thread that was ultimately closed down due to getting too heated.

I personally think the Survivors of Abuse forum should be sufficient for this.

There is a lot of supportive discussion about unethical therapists in the Psychotherapy section, too.

It sounds like you have had really hurtful therapy experiences. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

To me, your original post sounds extreme and somewhat paranoid. A peer support group might be a great place for you to work on your problem with "bad" therapy.

You are strong. You are resilient. You have invested a great deal or yourself and energy into this difficult past. What I would like to see is you devote even a fraction of this strength and resiliency into the here and now. You have within you the ability to empower yourself with this strength and determination. You need not put this behind you or forget about it. But use this vim and vigor to take you forward.

I think we used to have a unethical therapist forum that was member led. People felt left out of the main pyschotherapy forum. It never got active and it got to private or no longer exist. I too have suffered from unethical therapists in my past, very lucky to have found a good pyschologist. I would like to see too a sub forum of some kind, not to tear down but to support each other.

Folks are welcomed to start a social group to cover this topic, or use one of the existing forums (Abuse or Psychotherapy forums) to discuss the issue. Thanks.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
