For myself I use hug when I feel the person could use a hug. I use thanks when I appreciate the perspective/point of view given. Really though either/or shows support.

i know some people are compulsive about giving hugs. personally, i don't do hugs, IRL or online... so, when i say "Thanks", i mean Thanks for Sharing that... Thanks for Daring that... Thanks for letting me See you~

I use "Thanks" when I feel the poster wrote something that I feel the same about or that I could have wrote it or I experienced the same thing.
Hugs only when I feel so sad for what they are going through.

Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors. |
