For those who use photographs as your avatar, which size pixels do you use? I cannot get my avatar pic to stop being wide and blurry. Thank you.

THANK you for saying this. I SWEAR I thought my vision had finally deteriorated to the point of no return. I mean, I took off my glasses and brought my laptop within 1" of my eyeballs. "Oh no," I thought. "I don't think I'll be able to drive anymore."

Whew.

Mine was so long ago, it feels. I had a program on my old laptop that I could resize. I forget the settings. Mine is of a photo I took at the National Zoo in DC back in '11.
Thanks for this!

Thanks everybody.

Well, when I feel like it I'll play around with the sizing. I don't use a phone to take pics, I use a digital camera. Maybe that has something to do with the problem.

It may also be the forum theme that you use. The teal and black that I use right now for some reason reshapes avatars to make them all be square, so what on the default theme looks like whatever shape it's supposed to be, this theme distorts it by forcing it to be a certain size... It's kind of irksome.

So that said, if you want it to look good on all themes perhaps a perfectly square-shaped size is what you need. 100x100 is my current size.

@*Laurie*

Hi. Mine isn't a photograph as such, but try resizing the height of your pic to 200X, and see how it goes. Should be all right. Mine's 200X200 and hasn't lost any clarity.
Thanks for this!

I'm not well versed about the use of pics and Avatars but I did go to my Profile Page and see the following statement at the bottom of the page. Your photograph could be too large. If so, there are several resizing websites but I don't know one to recommend. Maybe someone else can!

Quote:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 85 by 85 pixels or 488.3 KB (whichever is smaller).
(could be speaking of my own image...not sure! )

Thanks, notz.

This is hilarious - no matter which size I use (as long as it's really small) the forum them changes the avatar shape. ShadowGX, that seems to be the issue, sure enough. The theme that works best - Black Smart. Theoretically I like Black Smart, but it's hard on my eyes. So I guess to some people I'll look like a square tiny person, while to others I'll look wide and blurry . Ah well, it is what it is, lol.

Big ol’ giant original scans or photos. Regardless of the warning, the system seems to parse and reduce the size as if by magic.
