I hope it's okay to ask this
If we donate to the community fund thing, are we suspected of trying to earn "brownie points" with the "powers that be"? ie the admins and mods (by this I mean do the admins/mods think we're trying to earn "brownie points"?) I don't want "brownie points" I want to help people Last edited by Anonymous32891; Aug 30, 2018 at 02:30 PM.. Reason: making sure people understand what I'm trying to ask |

No brownie points as far as I know.
If you donate you get admitted to the Poobah forum. I've donated a couple times but didn't get any brownies __________________ |

I'm not even sure where this question comes from. I think people think if you give it means you want to help out the person in need in a legit way. There is no judgment that some can give and others can't or don't want to. What I like about the fund is that DocJohn vets the person applying and we give to the PC foundation and they give the grant. So it's not like me just giving to some random person, but this person has been identified as in need and we can come together, each doing a little bit, to help.
But it's not a thing you do for glory or brownie points. No one knows who you are or cares. I don't think the admins even know who gives, only DocJohn or whoever manages the accounting does. There are no brownie points associated. Trust me, I've donated, and I still get called on it if I cross the line. As does everyone else. __________________ What if I fall? The moderating team has no idea who has donated. There’s no list or anything that we see.
IrisBloom, send DocJohn a PM about getting access to the Poobah forum. I did that back in the day when I donated and didn’t have access yet. |

I was so lucky to get some help from the community fund. I felt and still feel honored that people here cared so much. That's what it's about ….caring. As soon as I'm in a better place, financially, I will most certainly contribute.

There are many ways to get access to the Poobah forum. That's not a list we can see either. And only DocJohn can see who has donated.

I think I got in by post count *blush* . I've donated but don't use the email that's associated with this account by virtue of where I file my receipts.
Did someone say Brownies? Or.. Something about rolling out the carpet? *blush* *dusting off the carpet**gulp* Eta: whoops extra set of footprints...almost forgot in the moment |

Who's getting told off? I don't know of anyone getting told off.
As far as "brownie points" go, we don't give any brownie points out to anyone here. We don't treat anyone differently if they've written something for PC, donated to a community fund or anything else. We don't have time to do anything like that and we don't take sides with anyone either. To us, that would be game playing and as I said, we're too busy to do that. In otherwords, we don't have "pets" or "favorites". Whisper, we understand that you come from another forum that you feel treated you unfairly, but please understand that we are a different forum and we have our guidelines that we use when issues arise. We know you have your "spidey sense" going but is it really fair to us to be continually compared to another forum? Take care! |

Very well said, indeed.
I can attest to PC being like night and day to numerous other places out there in InternetLand. It really was my 'this is it. If this place is like the rest, I toss in the towel.' I was searching for a place, anyplace while I was still recovering and trying to piece together my life after heartbreak and the betrayal of abuse. I mean certainly there's an underlying disorder that factored into his behaviors and there aren't places that are genuinely for partners of. PC, if I needed to unload a whole bunch of anger about my ex I could without judgement in the way I was judged and with compassion, etc. I was in a dark place soon after what happened to me that happened elsewhere. I. Agree with sabby. It's going to be ok, ok? Oh and I was in jest about rolling out the carpet, like they would at the Oscars as opposed to dusting off the carpet. They reach out to you hear and you can have your voice heard and your point of view respected if anything is questionable. Just so long as you don't start lashing back out at them of course. |
