I know there are so many threads and sub-categories but I think the Psychotherapy thread needs a Transference Thread all its own. I feel it is filled up mostly with that topic anyway. Then the main thread can actually be for questions regarding modalities like IFS and EMDR. Yes I see the romantic feelings for my therapist thread but not everyone has that.

When a child’s emotional needs are not met and a child is repeatedly hurt and abused, this deeply and profoundly affects the child’s development. Wanting those unmet childhood needs in adulthood. Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors. |

Wanting contact between sessions (calling, texting, emailing), hugs, maternal, paternal transference, constant fantasizing that your therapist is your mother or father, why the transference, stories of telling your therapist about your feelings. Working through the transference, philosophical discussions on transference, being terminated because of transference, google stalking your therapist, stalking the therapist.........any I missing anything else peeps?
